4. Nearest country and
Filipino virtues
It is less than 3 hours and a half
away from Japan, Korea, China
and many Asian countries by air
and people in the Philippines are
well-known for their hospitality.
This makes it easy for foreign
students to adjust to the Ph
ilippine environment and to
study with comfort.
Cultural experience
It is less than 3 and a half hours
away by air from Japan, Korea,
China and from many other Asian
countries and people in the Philip
pines are well-known for their ho
spitality.
Why do people choose the Philippines to study English?
Best place for
foreigners to study
English
The Philippines has gained its po
pularity not only for its famous travel
spots, but also for being the best
place to study English. Since 1990,
there has been a constant influx
of foreigners especially from Korea
andJapan,whichmakesitpossible
to develop and stabilize English
programs for beginners. Many pe
ople who have studied in the Philip
pines are satisfied with their fast
improvement and still choose this
country to come back for their
further study.
Good studying
environment
Meals, room cleaning, and laundry
are taken care of by school staff,
which helps students concentrate
on studying only. Unlike in other
countries where foreigners are
clustered to study, students who
come to the Philippines need not
to worry about doing house cho
res and visa extension.
1 on 1 class least
cost but best effective
The best part of studying English
in the Philippines is having one on
oneclasses.Comparedtootherco
untries which are the U.S, Canada,
Australia, U.K and New Zealand,
students can avail of intensified
and tailored classes in one on one
classes with less expense. This ty
pe of class helps teachers focus
on students’ weaknesses in Eng
lish and enable students to pract
ice more by boosting students’
confidence.

5. Why do people choose Baguio City to study English?
Optimum conditions
for studying in Baguio
Baguio city is located about 1,500
meters above sea level, high in the
mountain range, allowing the city
to have a cool weather throughout
the year. Unlike other tourist attra
ctions in the Philippines, there are
no entertainment establishments
and casinos in the city and this fa
vorable condition helps learners
focus on studying.
Tourist Spots near
Baguio City
It is very convenient for foreigners
to easily travel to neighboring plac
es and visit magnificent tourist spo
ts around the archipelago. The sea
and beaches are just less than 2
hours away from the city. There are
a lot more to enjoy while staying in
Baguio, for example: The Rice Te
rraces of Banawe-regarded as one
of the world treasures, cave explo
ration in Sagada, and the crystal
clear sea of Hundred Islands.
Traditionally known
as an Educational city
There are 6 prestigious universities
and major colleges in Baguio City,
thereby providing a potential pool
of ESL teachers who may be hired
and selected by English academies.
These educated teachers are furt
her trained to provide high quality
educational service to foreigners.
Commonly known as
the Safest city
Baguio City offers a safe and sec
ure community compared to other
cities in the country, and the peop
le are nice to foreigners. In some
parts of the Philippines, there is ne
ws of alarming crimes but Baguio
City is an exception. Famous land
marks that are often visited include
Mansion House - the official vaca
tion house of the President of the
Philippines, Philippine Military Acad
emy which ensures safety of the
entire community.

Camp John Hay
This former rest and recreation facility of
the U.S. Armed Forces is older than the
city itself. For almost the whole of the 20th
century it is what made Baguio City in the
Philippines "Little America." Camp John
Hay's charm remains the same with its
pine tree-lined roads, beautiful landscaping,
quaint cottages and wide open spaces.
The place remains a "must visit" for tourists.

The main attractions in Mines View Park

8. Highest percentage of class
attendance and study
extension
Students’ attendance is monitored every
hourtodeterminetheirattendanceinclass.
As a result, this practice contributes to the
fact that PIA has a high rate in terms of
study extension. Students find it helpful
and efficient to stay longer because they
could see big improvement in themselves
term by term.
Four-week term basis and
Advanced Course Campus
PIA is the only academy in the Philippines
that operates an academic term of four
weeks. There are three main departme
nts in PIA, namely: Refresher, Bridging
and Advanced. Refresher and Bridging
Departments are both located in Cooye
esan Hotel Plaza, whereas, Chapis Adva
nced Course campus is situated in a se
parate establishment that strictly implem
ents the English Speaking Zone Policy.
PIA Features
PIA observes rigid and high standard pra
ctices in its hiring system as compared to
other ESL institutions. With all the Human
Resources programs exclusively provided
to PIA teachers, the quality of teachers
produced is by far superior as compared
to any other ESL schools in the Philippines.
Excellent ESL teachers equip
ped with competent teaching
skills
08
Students, who come to PIA on the same
date, belong to a similar batch managed
by one Korean manager. PIA students
are well taken care of by experienced
managers who have worked in PIA for
at least 3 years. Likewise, all student ma
nagers have studied in PIA and have been
abroad for English studies.
Batch manager system
PIA offers ESL curricula that ensure opti
mum language learning warranted by
tailored-maid textbooks and other instru
ctional materials to meet students’ need.
Also, teachers possess the required tec
hnical know-how to properly guide the
students in learning the English language.

PIA serves nutritious meals 3 times a day
on regular class days which include rice,
meat, vegetables, and soup. A healthy
diet enhances students’ body immune
system to study with higher level of con
centration.
Nutritious meals
With Korean students comprising the bulk
of student body in PIA, 15%~25% of the
entire population is composed of other
nationalities such as Japanese, Chinese,
and Vietnamese. Also, the duration of
students’ stay in PIA is comparatively lon
ger compared to other ESL schools in
the Philippines.

a test on a weekly basis to know the pro
gression of their studies and to accurately
check on the improvement of their learni
ng during their stay. Based on the results,
the students are placed in their respective
campuses in accordance with the score
obtained.
Accurate Level Test and PEPT
Apart from the regular ESL curriculum,
PIA continues to update and create more
practical English classes to meet students’
special needs. As such, a variety of option

20. PIA Level Test
What is PEPT?
Pines International Academy has come up with its own Standardized Test known as Pines
English Proficiency Test. It is generally administered to non-native speakers, specifically
Asian students in order to gauge their strengths and weaknesses along the four English
language macro skills namely, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Through the detailed
result of the test, students are advised to intensify their respective focus on the area which
needs improvement.
Assessment is an integral part of learning a second language in order to determine the progre
ssion of learners from one proficiency level to another. Thus, in PIA, the learners are subje
cted to two main types of tests, namely : subject test and the Pines English Proficiency Test (PEPT).
