A survey of IT managers at UK small and medium enterprises found that one third store their data backups on-site, putting their business operations at risk. Less than half back up data off-site in secure data centers. The average cost of downtime for SMEs is £27,000 per hour, reaching six figures for larger companies. Only 16% of businesses are confident in their disaster recovery procedures and many have flaws in their backup and data protection methods. Storing backups off-site in cloud services can reduce risks but many SMEs remain wary of security and providers' procedures.

The results of data analysis using multiple regression showed partial support for the model, with senior management support and individual intention to use significantly influencing actual KMS use. The study provides insights for both manufacturing organizations

An online survey was conducted from February to March 2015 among 360 global business and IT executives with 180 respondents from the United States, 60 from the United Kingdom, 60 from Germany and 60 from Japan. Of these, 15% are CEOs, presidents or owners; 14% are CIOs/CTOs/CSOs; 5% are other C-level executives; 13% are heads of business units or EVPs/VPs/directors; 23% are IT/security professionals; and 30% are managers or other business professionals (e.g., engineering, research and development, sales, legal and compliance, etc.).

Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

- 2. • Third of companies is putting their business at risk by storing data back-ups on-site, research finds. • One in three companies is putting business operations at risk by storing data back-ups on- site, according to new research.
- 3. • The research by Onyx Group, which took place among IT managers in UK SMEs, shows that less than half back-up data off-site in a secure data centre, despite the risk that loss of IT poses to business continuity. In a recent survey by the Chartered Management Institute, IT loss was rated as the greatest threat to business continuity ahead of loss of skills, electricity and even people. Research has shown that the average cost of downtime for SMEs is £27,000 per hour, with this sum reaching six figures for larger companies and e-commerce models.
- 4. • The research by Onyx also revealed that just 16 per cent of businesses are confident that their disaster recovery procedures are as good as they could be. A further 14 per cent did not know whether they could be improved. While all respondents invest some time in backing up and protecting their data, there are flaws in the methods used to do so. Just 69 per cent of companies surveyed have procedures in place for home working and only one third incorporate cloud services into their business continuity strategies, despite the benefits that off-site data storage and hosting bring. Half of those companies that are yet to include cloud in their disaster recovery plans say that it is due to lack of security and trust in a provider’s procedures and services.
- 5. • Neil Stephenson, CEO at Onyx Group commented: "IT is the lifeblood of most businesses today and so constantly keeping your data safe and secure to maintain business continuity is essential. The research results show that many businesses are taking unnecessary risks with data management and that could prove to be extremely costly.
- 6. • "The research highlighted obvious gaps in business continuity planning. All businesses should have procedures in place in the event that a workplace is inaccessible due to circumstances such as flooding or fires. The ability to relocate staff to an additional site or having procedures in place to allow staff to work securely from home is key to minimising the impact of a disaster.
