The interview summarizes recent advances and remaining challenges in floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) technology. Significant advances include front-end engineering design studies awarded to Shell and Petrobras, and the development of LNG hoses for offloading from FLNG vessels. However, tandem offloading of LNG from the vessel to a shuttle tanker while moored end-to-end remains a challenge. Additionally, ensuring safety from potential LNG spills on the vessel deck requires further evaluation. While the technology is close to practical application, low natural gas prices are currently preventing the sanctioning of the first FLNG project.
