You must install brass conduit fittings right to provide protection to home wires. Conduit works as a shield for wires. Even if local codes allow armored cable installation in a garage, basement, crawlspace, or attic, deploying conduit to protect wiring is recommended.
2. BRASS CONDUITS PROTECT WIRES AND KEEP
YOUR HOME SAFE
You must install brass conduit fittings right to provide protection to home wires.
Conduit works as a shield for wires. Even if local codes allow armored cable
installation in a garage, basement, crawlspace, or attic, deploying conduit to protect
wiring is recommended. Manufacturers are making conduits in different thicknesses
and designs to cater customer demands all across the world.
3. While outdoor apply intermediate metal conduit or PVC conduit, interior home use EMT or
thin wall. Codes include detailed standards related to conduit size; however, ½ inch conduit
is ideal for five or fewer wires and ¾ inch conduit for more than five wires. In case you want
to be on safe side, you can pick larger size of conduit as it doesn’t cost you much.
If you have PVC pipe for installation, you will
need a ground wire, either bare copper or green
insulated. If the ground wire is absent, you need
to check that all the metal conduit connections are
firm as any loose joint could result in broken
ground path.
4. You can save your time by buying conduit fittings for the project. Conduit fitting is
designed to connect two conduits together. A sweep fitting allows wires to slide easily,
while a pulling elbow creates a sharper turn. Other than this, there are setscrew fittings
applied with EMT conduit to create firm joints. These joints are not water resistant. For
weather tight joints, you can bring IMC conduit and compression fittings.
It’s easiest to make a drawing of your project
and have a salesman assist you in assembling
all the parts you require – sweeps, conduit,
boxes, elbows, and clamps. Do check you have
enough wires.
5. Things you need –
❖Screws
❖Metal boxes
❖Screwdriver
❖Offset fitting
❖Conduit
❖Measuring tape
❖One-or-two-hole straps
❖Hacksaw
❖Conduit reaming attachment
6. Steps
❖ Anchor boxes
Anchor boxes over the wall using screws. You can use handy boxes for exposed wiring. The
boxes may have rounded edges and metal covers.
❖ Do measurement of conduit
When you install the boxes, you must measure the conduit for cutting.
❖ Cut conduit
Cut the conduit and make it fit using a hacksaw. We don’t recommend using tubing cutter
that creates sharp edges within the conduit that could harm or damage insulation of the wire.
7. ❖Slide in conduit
❖Anchor conduit
Your conduit box is installed. You can easily do this project your own with right conduit
fittings that you can avail from brass conduit fittings suppliers.
