Updates
-The new analysis "found that leisure activities like making
crafts, playing sports or volunteering were linked to a reduced
risk of dementia," said Lu, principal investigator at
IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at Peking University
in Beijing, China.

-"The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public
Health is one of four sites awarded a total of $7.5 million from
the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct research that
could lead to improved care in emergency departments for
people with dementia. The funds will support Geriatric
Emergency Care Applied Research Network 2.0 - Advancing
Dementia Care (GEAR 2.0 ADC), which is a collaboration between
UW, Yale School of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine at
Northwestern University and Washington University School of
Medicine in St. Louis. All four institutions are home to an NIH-
National Institute on Aging-designated Alzheimer’s Disease
Research Center."

8. Technology
Supports of people diagnosed with dementia are using technology
that monitors electrical appliance use to help ensure safety. When
caregivers do not live with someone diagnosed with dementia,
monitoring electrical appliance use can help signal distress,
neglect, or need for intervention.
Dementia Clocks. There are clocks specifically designed for
patients with dementia. These are large faced clocks that help ease
anxiety, usually associated with the diagnosis. Most of the time,
people with dementia will find it difficult to tell time. When the
clock is easy to read, it helps the patients to distinguish time. It
reduces confusion or worries if the patient is already prone to
forgetting. They even have some clocks that, with a push of a
button, will tell you the time, date or even what day it is. The clock
is also an excellent take for the caregivers trying to make routine
showing the sick ones that they time they say it is correct.
