Boto3 is a Python library that provides an easy way to interact with and automate Amazon Web Services. It is a ground-up rewrite of Boto that uses a data-driven approach to generate classes at runtime from shared JSON files, allowing for fast updates to services and a consistent API across services. Boto3 can be installed via pip and configured using AWS credentials and default region/output settings. A demo of Boto3 usage is available on GitHub.

POOQ - Content Alliance Platform is the primary OTT service provider in Korea. In this session, we discuss how Content Alliance Platform migrated its workloads to AWS this year using AWS Elemental Cloud, Amazon CloudFront, and other AWS services. After their initial migration, Content Alliance Platform has continuously optimized video transcoding for better quality and cost-effective delivery using CloudFront. To achieve this, they developed various video profiles using AWS Elemental Live, according to the content, by using various CloudFront features, such as geo-blocking, signed cookies and URLs, and HTTPS with ACM, and by adopting various new media technologies, such as H.265, UHD, VBR, and HFR. Finally, we discuss how Content Alliance Platform is developing its next generation of OTT services using microservice architecture with Docker.

In this session we will learn about building Serverless Bots using AWS Services. We will explore contemporary examples of Bots and Serverless architectural building blocks needed to build a Bot. Taking few sample Bots, we will dive deeper into the AWS Services used to build them. The focus will be on Serverless architectural components such as Lambda, API Gateway, Alexa Skills Kit, etc. We will explore different interfaces, voice (eg. Alexa) and text (eg. Slack). We will also discuss about building intelligent Bots.
In the hands on session, the participants will build a Serverless Bot. Participants are free to choose any theme for their Bot, although guidance will be provided on few starter ideas. The participants will be grouped into teams and will have access to starter code, libraries so that they can focus on building their unique bot rather than the underlying undifferentiated heavy lifting. At the end of the hour, the Bots get voted on and the winning Bot is demoed. Through this workshop, the participants will get a deeper understanding of Serverless AWS Services and how to use them to build a Serverless Bot.
Prerequisites:
Participants should have an AWS account established and available for use during the workshop.
Please bring your own laptop.

Python + Software Defined Radios
Software-defined radio (SDR) uses software to implement components traditionally implemented in hardware like mixers, filters, amplifiers, and modulators/demodulators. GNU Radio is a free software toolkit that provides signal processing blocks to implement SDRs. There are several Linux applications for SDR like GQRX, an open source SDR receiver, Nrsc5 for digital radio, and SDRTrunk for decoding trunked radio protocols. ADS-B is a surveillance technology where aircraft periodically broadcast their position to enable tracking via satellite navigation. Python can be used to parse and analyze ADS-B data. Several Python SDR libraries and demos were presented.

Pyspark
Slides from my talk at Python Frederick in July 2017 on Pyspark, Big data and Elastic MapReduce. The slides are fairly short and were only there to give a quick overview. The meat of the presentation is in the Github repo link on the last slide.
Troposphere Python infrastructure as code for AWS Cloudformation
Infrastructure as code is managing computing infrastructure through machine-processable definition files instead of physical configuration. Cloudformation helps model and set up AWS resources so less time is spent managing them. Troposphere allows easier creation of Cloudformation JSON by writing Python code to describe AWS resources, and includes basic OpenStack support.
What is IAM?
AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) allows you to securely control access to AWS services and resources for your users. With IAM, you can create and manage AWS users and groups, and use permissions to allow and deny their access to AWS resources. IAM allows you to control who can use which services and resources and what actions they can perform.
Kong API
Kong is an open source API gateway that acts as a single entry point for API requests. It handles requests by either proxying them directly to services or fanning out requests to multiple services. It runs in front of RESTful APIs and extends their functionality through plugins. Kong listens on ports 8000 for HTTP, 8443 for HTTPS, 8001 for its admin API, and 7946 and 7373 for inter-node communication. The document discusses setting up Kong with Docker, viewing logs, and the architecture of a Kong implementation with an API and management container on each host behind private and public load balancers. Next steps discussed are using Kongfig for configuration management and comparing Kong to just using Nginx.
SaltStack
SaltStack is an open source configuration management and remote execution tool built on Python. It allows infrastructure to be defined as code using Salt states written in YAML and Jinja templates. The Salt master directs configurations to minions, which are clients that receive and apply the configurations. Salt pillars provide global values that can be distributed to all minions. SaltStack competes with tools like Puppet, Chef, and Ansible for infrastructure as code deployments and cloud management.
Virtual machines and containers
Virtual machines (VMs) allow users to run multiple operating systems on a single physical machine concurrently. VMs act like independent computers and have their own OS, applications, and storage. Containers provide operating system-level virtualization where the kernel runs directly on the host machine and containers share resources but are isolated. Common VM environments include VirtualBox, VMware, AWS, and OpenStack. Common container environments include LXC and Docker. While VMs are heavier, containers are lighter and more portable. The author currently prefers VMs due to industry use, customization, security, and ease of backups and recovery.
Ignite talks
This Ignite talk discusses the format of Ignite talks which are 5-minute presentations with 20 slides that automatically advance every 15 seconds. The speaker is passionate about hot peppers and rates their spiciness using the Scoville scale, a measurement of heat. He profiles several of the hottest peppers including the Carolina Reaper which measures over 2 million Scoville heat units, making it currently the hottest pepper in the world.
Aws 101
AWS is a cloud computing platform offering computing, storage, networking, database, analytics, machine learning, and other functionality. It consists of regions, availability zones, edge locations, and many services including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, IAM, and more. AWS allows companies to build and scale applications easily.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their Mainframe
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

- 2. What is boto? Boto is a Python library that provides you with an easy way to interact with and automate using various Amazon Web Services.
- 3. What is boto3? Boto 3 is a ground-up rewrite of Boto. It uses a data-driven approach to generate classes at runtime from JSON description files that are shared between SDKs in various languages. This includes descriptions for a high level, object oriented interface similar to those available in previous versions of Boto. Because Boto 3 is generated from these shared JSON files, we get fast updates to the latest services and features and a consistent API across services. Community contributions to JSON description files in other SDKs also benefit Boto 3, just as contributions to Boto 3 benefit the other SDKs.
