La Haine Review Essay
La Haine Review
La Haine , a 93 minute film regarding about three adolescents(Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kounde, and Said Taghmaoui) who struggle to cope in a poverty stricken environment in which hatred and violence are part of everyday life. Even the title La Haine which is a French word, translated to The Hatred suggests what the film is about. Based on a true event, La Haine is inspired by a real event where a young man was murdered while being questioned at a Parisian Police station. In exploring racism in the Paris suburbs, this film has a direct contrast with more typical French films, such as Amelie(2001) which presents a far more romantic and idyllic vision of French life. Self determination Theory emphasizes seeking the best and healthiest way to grow. Self determination theory consists of autonomy, competence and relatedness, and when these needs are met by someone, they feel motivated for action and feel positive emotions toward themselves and their goals. (Intrinsic motivation). Autonomy is the feeling of freedom of choice, and ability to make decisions for self. Competence is how capable one feels, being confident in their actions, and relatedness means the connection that one feels towards and with others. There was an assumption that men are better than women at mathematical skills, when that is not the case. Women actually tend to underestimate their mathematical skills on surveys when they know they are being compared to other male students. Jobs such as engineers, computer manufacturers, mathematicians are viewed more of a male job and they all involve strength in mathematics. Classes that focus on the area of one of those jobs, will likely consist more of men than female. The environmental stressor in this situation being that if more men are in the field, it must mean they are slightly better and that those job skills come more naturally to them. The Education Concept Of Education Essay
The American Education System provides an equal opportunity for all children in the United States to get a quality education. Although it is not completely uniform across the country, with every state making it s own guidelines, everyone is still presented with a chance to attend a public school from kindergarten through twelfth grade. This enables all children with an education to advance further in life. For giving everyone that opportunity this system should be praised, but in the system it also has many flaws. schools in wealthy communities are better than those in poor communities, higher income schools are simply better at preparing their students for their future. In the reading The Banking Concept Of Education As An Instrument Of Oppression by Paulo Freire, believes that teachers are depositing information into their students. He states that there are two educational systems, the banking concept is when teachers are filling their students up with information but the students aren t fully understanding the material. On the other hand, the problem posing concept is when the teacher lets the students communicate with each other. It opens the classroom to a learning environment. Especially when students are more comfortable enough to ask the teacher a question. Digging Seamus Heaney Essay
One of the first functions of a poem, after all, is to satisfy a need in the poet
(Seamus Heaney)
In his essay Poetry, Language and Identity: A Note on Seamus Heaney, Kearney writes that Heaney has been criticised for refusing to adopt a fixed unambiguous position, for not nailing his colours to the mast, particularly about the national question (i.e. his attitude to his native North) . Although not disputed, Heaney s poetry maintains an objectivity that neither condemns nor accepts the turbulent past of his native Northern Ireland. He is an observer of the separation of ideals, religion, and national identity that occurred throughout his life.
In this essay, elements discussed will be Heaney s identity as a Catholic republican growing...show more content...Perhaps the only incident to demonstrate Heaney s patriotism was his response to the editors of The Penguin Book of Contemporary British Poetry in 1983. In Open Letter, Heaney rhymed Be advised, my passport s green/ No glass of ours was ever raised/ to toast the Queen . His reaction to being included as a British poet, gave him the opportunity to acknowledge proudly his Irish heritage, yet he made light of the situation by incorporating a rhyme of green and Queen . All Heaney ever wanted was to be socially responsible and creatively free (Redress of Poetry, p193). He was able to achieve this in later life, and it manifested itself in the poem, Exposure from North (1975). The move south to Wicklow was a personal decision, yet Heaney worried if he could produce material as illustrious as when living in the heart of his homeland. He was no longer a representative of the North, writing

Why Is Population Control Wrong
The idea of population control is one that ignites people to talk about and explore. Some countries have implemented population control for quite some time now. There are many attributes that go against the argument, but there are also some potential positives that could come from it. No matter what religion or background people come from, each person has their own view on if population control is right or wrong. Many people choose to see certain positives over the negatives while others look at things the other way around. One of biggest and controversial topics within population control is issues of the environment.
The environmental gain of population control shows that there are many positives to this regulation. With an ever increasing population, scientists are not sure that the earth can provide for the growing population. If any population were to be control, the lack of diversity would a main issue of debate. Diversity matters because it means that we value the difference in everyone around us, and not just one type of person. Population control would take that and completely abolish and tell people which kind of person is the right kind of person. Diversity is also a good thing because it gives people a chance to experience different attributes of each other, and broaden their norms.

The Stereotypes Of Street Children
Street Children are an Example of a Postcolonial Term, Identity Street children s identity affects their lives clearly through their behavior, their appearance, and their future seeking perspective. Their identity as street children is a form that represents them to the world. Therefore, their poor appearance is a part of their identity. Finally, identity also affects how street children identify themselves. By way of example, Macilau talks about how he feels about his unfortunate childhood: I don t look at my past and wish that it had been different. My experiences taught me how to fight for what I believe in and how to be independent. They are what made me who I am today (Macilau). (Intrinsic motivation). Autonomy is the feeling of freedom of choice, and ability to make decisions for self. Competence is how capable one feels, being confident in their actions, and relatedness means the connection that one feels towards and with others. For students in an educational environment, they are more likely to succeed and do better if they have an intrinsic motivational approach to their studies. Therefore, when surveyed among other male students, women fell under the pressure of these social factors, but when tested, they are just as smart as men in regards to their math

Humanity has been the sole reason for air pollution and population control is a way to curb that.

Firstly, street children s identity impacts their behavior. For instance, Mario Macilau, a top photographer who started his life on the street, talks about his childhood: It wasn t very safe. We had nowhere to keep anything, so we stole from one another. I got into some bad habits minor criminality, but it was a question of survival. Dog eat dog (Macilau). To illustrate, Macilau talks about the stereotype that people have of street children: Other people look at street kids and just see poverty (Macilau). This shows that whenever people look at street children, they would see nothing but dark fates wandering around the white city. This demonstrates that Macilau does not wish for a different backgr

Causal Cognition Analysis
In the article, Culture and Causal Cognition, the main psychological behavior that is being investigated are the behavior of humans in different cultures and how they perceive and react to causal cognition. People from different cultures have different causal beliefs which would change the way that they view the world and perceive different objects. For example, a person in the United States would view the world by the specific objects that he or she says, on the other hand, a person from Asia would view the same scene but they would so many of the details and imagery that is around the object instead of the object entirely by itself. Also, according to the article, the ancient Greeks were very individualistic. Which meant that they mostly relied on themselves and they were independent. Those Greeks being individualistic would give them the idea that their views on other things should also show individualism. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Boston Tea Party Essay

The Boston Tea Party
Most people have heard about the Boston Tea Party. When American's dumped British Tea in Boston Harbor. But not everyone understands the
importance of it, and why the Tea Party is still remembered today.
It was on December 16, 1773, when American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians threw 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India
Company from ships into Boston Harbor. "The Americans were protesting both a tax on tea (the Townshend Acts) and the perceived monopoly of the
East India Company (also the called English East India Company)" (Britannica p.1).
The Townshend Acts were a series of four acts passed by theBritish Parliament in an attempt to assert what it...show more content...
The fourth, and most important Townshend Act, lifted commercialduties on tea, allowing it to be exported to the Colonies free of all British taxes.
The acts posed an immediate threat to established traditions of colonial self–government. They were resisted everywhere with verbal agitation and
physical violence, deliberate evasion of duties, renewed importation arguments among merchants, and overt acts of hostility toward British enforcement
agents, especially in Boston. "Colonial tumult, coupled with the instability of frequently changing British ministries resulted at the Boston Massacre"
(Britannica p1). In repeal all revenue duties except that on tea were lifted.
In 1773 Parliament passed a Tea Act designed to aid the financially troubled East Indian Company by granting it a monopoly on all tea exported to the
colonies, an exemption on the export tax, and a "drawback" (refund) on duties owed on certain surplus quantities of tea in its possession.
"The tea sent to the colonies was to be carried only in East India Company ships and sold only through its own agents, bypassing the independent
colonial shippers and merchants. The company thus could sell the tea at a less–than–usual price in either

December 16, 1773, an angry group of protesters snuck upon three British ships carrying tea, and threw over 90,000 pounds of tea into the harbor.
However this was not the cause of the revolutionary war, it was multiple things that the British government did to the Americans to provoke them to
fight back. Many think it was right what they did to the American colonist, but many know it was wrong and some even consider it to be illegal. The
British Government put a tax on stuff for everyday use, like paper, stamps, tea, etc. The American colonist knew it was wrong and unlawful so some
refused to pay the price of the tax. British soldiers went to those people and demanded the money, if refused again or unable to pay the person would

The government was close to repealing it, but then the king forced it and made it harder on them, so the colonist made it harder on the government.
They took from them what they had taken. They were angry, annoyed, and tired of everything that the British had put them through so they set out to
make them pay for what they had done and try to teach them a lesson. That night, December 16, 1773, one hundred angry protester snuck aboard three
British ship that contained imported tea from an Indian company, 90,000 pounds of tea that would be equal to over 1,000,000 dollars in today's time. It
took the one hundred colonists over three hours, but they eventually threw all 343 chest of tea into the Boston harbor. This affected the government a
great amount; it took a big chunk of money to buy that tea, which they thought the colonist would have to pay for. Seeing how outraged the colonist
were, and that they meant business they government repealed taxes on some material need, like paper and stamps. Years later the taxes were brought
back up, this act was called the "stamp act" it increased more than the first time and this enraged the colonist even more. The Boston tea party affected
the government a lot, but not enough, so the colonist had to think of something else to do to get at them. The Government insisted on taxing them, all

Boston Tea Party When the Boston Tea Party occurred on the evening of December 16,1773, it was the culmination of many years of bad feeling
between the British government and her American colonies. The controversy between the two always seemed to hinge on the taxes, which Great
Britain required for the upkeep of the American colonies. Starting in 1765, the Stamp Act was intended by Parliament to provide the funds necessary to
