1. Making Wishes Come True: Chi Omega’s Boot Camp
Clemson’s chapter of Chi Omega sorority proudly hosted their 8th annual
Boot Camp benefitting its national philanthropy, The Make A Wish foundation., on
April 21. This is Chi Omega’s one big philanthropic event of the year, held at Y Beach
in Clemson, SC.
Chi O Boot Camp features a series of exciting, military-style games ranging
from POW Rescue to Efficiency Training. There were 22 teams that participated in
the fast-paced event, Greek and non-Greek. Gamma Phi Beta won for the women’s
teams in a thrilling Tug-O-War tie-breaker match against Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Delta Chi won for the men.
Overall, Chi Omega’s Boot Camp raised over $5,000 towards the Make A Wish
Foundation, supporting a child named Rayleigh. Rayleigh suffers from Wilms Tumor,
a form of childhood kidney cancer. Rayleigh loves Disney princesses, and has chosen
to spend the $5,000 at Disney World in Orlando. “It is a great feeling, helping an
adorable little girl accomplish her dream,” said Dorsey Allison, Chi Omega’s
philanthropy chair, “She was so thankful for our dedication.” The Chi Omega
sorority can hardly wait for next year!
Circle of Sisterhood
On November 13, Clemson Panhellenic Council held the Circle of Sisterhood
dedication dinner. The mission of Circle of Sisterhood is to unite sorority women to
"support entities around the world that remove educational barriers for girls and women,
uplifting them from poverty and oppression." Over the past two years, the Panhellenic
community has raised money for the organization with a variety of different fundraising
efforts. In all, Clemson Panhellenic raised $11,200 for Circle of Sisterhood this fall,
which puts them significantly closer to their goal of $40,000. Once at this amount,
Panhellenic will be able to send girls to Africa to help build a school.
The dinner, in honor of Panhellenic’s support of the Circle of Sisterhood
foundation, included the founder of Circle of Sisterhood, Ginny Carroll. Ms. Carroll only
knew the original amount of $11,200 raised, and not that Panhellenic had matched that
amount with their own funds to make the grand total $22,400. “When Ms. Carroll
accepted the check, she began to cry,” said Hanna Carroll, a Panhellenic delegate for Chi
Omega. “It was a very touching moment knowing how big of an impact Panhellenic had
on girls around the world.” Panhellenic Council cannot wait to host the events again next
year.
Bullseye! Delta Zeta’s Charity Clay Classic
Clemson’s chapter of Delta Zeta sorority hosted the 7th annual Charity Clay
Classic, benefitting its national philanthropies, the Painted Turtle Camp and The
Starkey Hearing Foundation, as well as its local philanthropy, The Meyer Center, in
Greenville, SC..
The event, held at Pickens County Range, had over 60 teams participate with
four people per team. There were two different competitions. The Trap Shoot was
2. for fraternity and non-fraternity teams, and prizes that included painted coolers and
hunting gear. The sorority teams took part in the rifle competition, which featured
prizes such as Lilly Pulitzer goodies, planners and blankets.
Not only was there fun in competing in the skeet shoot, but professionals
from the organization CZ-USA, a weapons manufacturer, also came out and brought
over 60 guns, for the participants, to test out. David Miller from CZ-USA put on a
trick shooting show for the audience to watch, which included shooting over his
head and upside down. “David was so good at shooting the targets,” said Ashley
Poland, a member of Delta Zeta, “He made it look easy!”
So far, The Charity Clay Classic has raised about $20,000 through online
donations and team sign-up fees. In addition to this, the sorority also hosted a 3
Spoons benefit night on March 12. Clemson Delta Zeta members are ecstatic that
their philanthropy event was such a success, and they can’t wait to host it again next
spring.
