Editor's Notes

  • #4 I was thinking here that we can ask people around the room who does Linked In, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ You Tube What does it mean to be social
  • #5 What is social media? Explanation vs definition? We know about all of these channels but where do they fit and how are they relevant for me and my business? What’s the difference between a blog and a micro blog? How did it become such a big thing
  • #6 So we’ve talked about what might be relevant but how do I understand what is the value of social media for my business? How can it add value to my business? How much time should I spend? Give me some examples of companies that have benefitted and how?

  • #8 I certainly speak for myself when I say people I speak to don’t know where to start there’s a FEAR of doing it badly…..so what would doing it badly look like? Have you got any tips on what not to do? e.g. Don’t type in all caps because this is considered yelling online. Go easy on the updates. Try to share what others will find most interesting, entertaining or important. Don’t hijack someone else’s conversation. Be especially aware if they are competitors. Be polite. Remember that once it is online it is forever. Only share what you don’t mind ANYONE seeing. (Ask yourself whether you would be embarrassed if your mom, grandmother, or future boss saw it. If yes, just don’t do it.) If you don’t have something nice to say about someone don’t say anything at all. (Yes, we all should have learned that from our mums or in Kindergarten.) Everyone loves images and videos; consider using them instead of all text.
