Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

5 Public speaking tips from TED - Visualized summarySpeakerHub
From their humble beginnings in 1984, TED has grown into the world’s most powerful amplifier for speakers and thought-leaders to share their ideas. They have over 2,400 filmed talks (not including the 30,000+ TEDx videos) freely available online, and have hosted over 17,500 events around the world.
With over one billion views in a year, it’s no wonder that so many speakers are looking to TED for ideas on how to share their message more effectively.
The article “5 Public-Speaking Tips TED Gives Its Speakers”, by Carmine Gallo for Forbes, gives speakers five practical ways to connect with their audience, and effectively share their ideas on stage.
Whether you are gearing up to get on a TED stage yourself, or just want to master the skills that so many of their speakers possess, these tips and quotes from Chris Anderson, the TED Talks Curator, will encourage you to make the most impactful impression on your audience.

Bongbong Marcos Speech Journalism Training Material speech bbm
1. SPEECH BY
PRESIDENT FERDINAND R. MARCOS JR.
AT THE MEETING WITH THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY
[Delivered in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia | 20 October 2023]
Maraming salamat sa ating Kalihim ng Department of Foreign Affairs [Crowd cheers: BBM! BBM! BBM! BBM! BBM!] sa
inyong pagpakilala.
[applause]
Gulf Cooperation — ‘yung mga countries around the gulf ano, around the Gulf nations at ang ASEAN.
At
Speaker Martin Romualdez. Nandito rin po ang ating Finance Secretary, Secretary Ben Diokno. Nandito rin po ang secretary
natin ng Department of Trade and Industry, ang ating secretary, Secretary Fred Pascual.
Frederick Go.
nating tulungan dahil marami pong bagong teknolohiya. Marami pong bagong klaseng trabaho na kailangan pag-aralan. At
napakahusay.
Kahit saan
man, kahit ano man ang problema, tuluyan po ang trabaho ng pamahalaan upang suportahan kayong lahat. [applause]
Ang ating Special Envoy to
Saudi Arabia, Undersecretary Jesus Domingo.
We will achieve the goals that we have set
for ourselves, for our country, and for our people. Kaya’t kasama po natin ang mga ating tinatawag na partners in the private
sectors.
Pilipinas. [applause] Kayo po ang pinakamahalaga na naging – na kasama natin na bisita ngayon. Lahat ng ating mga bisita;
It is always an honor and a pleasure to spend time with the great Filipino community of Saudi Arabia. I wish to recall the
first time, ‘yung unang pagpunta ng isang pangulo rito sa Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ay ang taong 1982. At ang pumuntang
pangulo rito ay ang aking ama, the President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. [applause] He came to Saudi Arabia, he had a state visit
to meet His Majesty King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to renew the good relations between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia
and to reassure the Kingdom that both countries will remain great friends. And I, as his son and now as President, will
continue in that tradition, ipapagpatuloy po natin.
ayusin.
2. I have come on the gracious invitation of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his Royal Highness Crown
Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud to participate in the inaugural ASEAN Gulf Cooperation Council Summit. Dahil
The Philippines’ vibrant individual relationships with the GCC countries, ang GCC countries – the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia, ang UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain – are special because of the millions of Filipinos who have
worked and lived and continue to thrive here.
At
po the tremendous impact that overseas Filipinos have had on the Filipino economy.
I would be remiss, of course, if I do not speak of the difficulties and the challenges that you have all encountered. Lahat
But your incredible determination and resilience are truly impressive.
On behalf of the government of the Philippines, I convey my gratitude and express my admiration to each and everyone
of you. You serve as an inspiration to us all. [applause] The knowledge and the skills that you have acquired, ‘yung inyong
galing at sipag habang kayo’y nandito, have proven to be invaluable assets to the Philippines.
naman ang nararamdaman po namin, proud to be a Pinoy. Maraming salamat sa inyo. [applause]
So continue to share your experiences to our countrymen and bring technical expertise back to the Philippines. Your
efforts have not gone unnoticed. I look forward to your return. With your help, the Philippine government’s reintegration
programs will continue moving forward towards a brighter future for our country and for our people.
Pilipinas. As cultural ambassadors have shown the people of the world the kindness, the warmth of the Filipino, you have
all contributed to the promotion of the Philippines as a remarkable tourist destination.
una sabi niya, “I have to tell you my second mother is a Filipina.”
Prince sabi niya sa akin, alam mo ba sabi niya, that 80 percent of the ICU personnel are Filipino, 80 percent in the whole of
Saudi Arabia.
I find that sense of Filipino – of family amongst the Filipino community very inspiring. As do our – as do our friends the
locals where the OFWs work, supporting one another, helping distressed kababayans are traits worth emulating. A strong
sense of community is incredibly important especially for migrant workers.
I request that the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia continue to help one another.
But also the government is part of this process. We are committed to providing solutions to ease the lives of overseas
Filipinos. I have instructed all the government agencies to utilize digital technology to streamline previously lengthy
processes. The OFW Pass, for example, is a digital technology solution that removes the need for paper requirements
making returning to your country of work more convenient.
Further, we remain committed to
developing Philippine economy and improving the lives of the Filipino people in general.
pagmamahal at inyong pagsuporta. [cheers and applause] [Crowd cheers: BBM! BBM! BBM!] Yehey!
sortie campaign sortie namin at nakita nga niyo.
Kaya nangyayari po sa galing talaga ninyo, we have become
victims of our own success.
At pinalawak pa natin ito dahil hindi lamang the whole-of-nation -- the whole-of-
government concept kundi the whole-of-nation concept.
puntahan namin may Pilipino. Sabi namin dinadahan-dahan namin kayong lahat. After a while, kami na magta-take over
galing ninyo.
Kaya’t uli, maraming-maraming salamat. Mabuhay ang OFW! Mabuhay ang Pilipino! Mabuhay tayong lahat!
[applause]
