This computerized approach analyzes tolerances in disk cam mechanisms with a flat-faced follower. It uses simulated higher-pair contact analysis to determine the kinematic deviation of the follower motion caused by tolerance amounts. Parametric expressions are derived for theoretical cam profiles for an offset translating oblique flat-faced follower and an oscillating flat-faced follower. The approach considers variable radial errors in the actual cam profile compared to the theoretical profile. It is validated using an eccentric circular cam mechanism and then applied to illustrative examples.
