The month of September was pretty eventful. The Hindi Fortnight Celebrations were held from 14th to
28th September, the 99th Annual General Meeting of the Company was held in the Birla Sabhaghar at
Kolkata on 22nd September, the significant Bahaviour Based Safety program for the Company was
launched in Silvassa on 28th September and we observed the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal
Upadhyay in all our units and establishments across the country on 26th September.

On 2nd October 2016, the country witnessed the completion of two years of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
(SBA). Today, the SBA has become a mass movement in which the citizens of India have become an
integral part in one way or the other. We have another three years to accomplish Hon’ble Prime
Minister’s Dream of having a wholly Clean India. So let’s continue to dedicate two hours a week and
work towards making this Mission a success!
Vigilance Awareness Week will be observed from 31st October to 5th November 2016. The theme for this
year is "Public Participation in promoting integrity and eradicating corruption". A host of programs will
be organised based on the theme by our company. All of you are requested to participate in the

SBU: G&L added a new Distributor, M/s M A
Enterprises for its "Balmerol" brand of Lubricants
in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 8th September 2016.
M/s M A Enterprises will cover the areas of
Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Kawartha, Dhamtri
and surrounding districts. Around 125 reputed
dealers from Raipur and surrounding areas
attended the Meet.
3. As part of its sales promotion initiatives, SBU:G&L conducted technical workshops in the month of
September at the premises of Customers in the Northern and Western Regions.
A workshop on Industrial Greases was organised at Jindal SAW
Limited, Bhilwara (Rajasthan) on 27th September, which was
attended by around 35 plant engineers and purchase executives.
Mr. S K Roy and Mr. Mukesh Agarwal made a presentation covering
industrial greases in general and Balmerol high performance
greases in detail. The presentation was appreciated and lots of
relevant questions were asked.
On 29th September two workshops on Lubricants for Sugar Mills was held at Simbhaoli Sugar Limited, in
Simbhaoli and the Brijnathpur Unit both located at Hapur (Uttar Pradesh). While the workshop at the
Brijnathpur Unit was attended by around 25 plant and maintenance engineers, the workshop at
Simbhaoli was attended by around 20 maintenance engineers and chemists. Mr. S K Roy and Mr.
Mukesh Agarwal addressed the participants and highlighted Balmerol high performance products for
sugar mills in particular.
The 18th Education Course on "Greases for Steel Industry" was organised by NLGI-India Chapter on
22nd & 23rd September 2016 at Jamshedpur. Forty participants from various user industries including
lubricants and steel industries attended the education course for two days. Three Executives from ARL
were invited as Faculty to deliver presentations on different topics. Mr. N Parameswaran spoke on High
Performance Greases for Steel Industry, Mrs. Sharmila Barman addressed the participants on
Environmental Issues related to Lubricants & Greases and possible solutions and Mr. S K Roy presented
a case study on Investigating Degradation of Service Greases.

4. The Birth Centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was celebrated on 26th September in all
units/establishments across locations pan India. At the Corporate Office, Mr. Prabal Basu, C&MD and
Ms. Manjusha Bhatnagar, Director [HR&CA] paid homage to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya in the
presence of employees. In other locations employees paid floral tribute to the leader, who is
remembered for maintaining high standards of personal integrity and for having been a source of
ideological guidance and moral inspiration to many people of the nation. Posters highlighting his
humanitarian thoughts and philosophy were displayed, an on-line quiz was organised for all employees
and a week long old clothes and stationery collection drive was held at the Corporate Office.
A training program on Business Etiquettes was organized at the Russian Culture Centre in New Delhi on
19th & 20th September for two batches of employees of the Northern Region. The program was

Ms. Kshama Agarwal, Logistics - Mumbai received an invitation from MyGov
on the occasion of the first Townhall that was addressed by Hon’ble Prime
Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. MyGov, is the Government of India’s citizen
engagement platform. To celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and
participative governance, MyGov had organized the Townhall, which was a
day long event on 6th August 2016 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi.
The event was attended by dignitaries representing the government,
business, public administration and media. The event witnessed multiple

7. The Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) Program was inaugurated by C&MD on 28th September at G&L and
IP, Silvassa in the presence of Director [HR&CA], Director [Manufacturing Businesses], Director
[Finance] and other Senior Executives. BBS is the application of science of behaviour change to real
world problems. It establishes a process that creates a safety partnership between the management
and employees and continually focuses people's attention and actions on daily safety behaviour. In
both the plants, Safety Ambassadors (Suraksha Rajdoots) amongst the workers were selected and
they were felicitated by the Directors on the day of the inauguration. Both the plants also charted out
their BBS Checklist which was unveiled by the Directors during the event.
CII, Eastern Region organized a two day Symposium and Exposition on
“Smart Safety” at ITC Sonar, Kolkata on 8th & 9th September. This year
the symposium focussed on several technologies that are enabling the
concept of smart safety to become a reality. The Smart Safety process can
address tactical as well as strategic planning. More than 150 professionals
from 50 different companies participated in this grand event. Four
Delegates from Balmer Lawrie participated in the symposium.
CFS, Chennai organised a Fire Safety Training
and awareness program on 24th September.
The training was conducted by Tamil Nadu
Fire and Emergency Services. Around 80
participants comprising Executives,
Supervisors, Staffs, Security Personnel,
Handling Contractors, Equipment Operators
etc. attended the training program.
HSE [HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT] UPDATE
An OHS Room was inaugurated by Mr.
Amit Paladhi, Head [HSE] in the IP Plant at
Navi Mumbai on 13th September.
8. RHR - Western Region organized a Eye and Dental check-up camp for the students of Shri Dayanand
Balika Vidyalaya, in association with the Implementation Partner, Rotary Club of Bombay Uptown
Charitable Trust, under the Health and Environment Protection Scheme. The children attending this
school are under privileged and from nearby slums located at Wadala, Matunga Labour Camp, Sewree
and Antop Hill. 800 girls were checked for eye and dental problems during the camp, which was
organized from 1st to 4th October.
Balmer Lawrie was one of the recipients of the Indywood CSR Excellence Award for its commitment to
CSR, timely completion of projects under it and outreach to remote areas. Ms. Usha Srinivasan, Chief
Manager, Logistics – Hyderabad received the award on behalf of the Company at Ramoji Film Studio,
Hyderabad.
On World CSR Day, Balmer Lawrie won the CSR Leadership Award, which was received by Ms.
Sangeeta Gupta of T&V – Bangalore on 1st September in a function held at Taj Vivanta, Bangalore. The
award was given away by Professor Indira Parikh, President, Antardisha and Ex-Dean, IIM Ahmedabad.
