1) Choose one of the following patients:
   a) Mr. Smith, Mr. Jones, Mr. Green, Ms. Brown= Ms. Brown
   b) Using the information shown in Figure 1 on Blood type and the data recorded in Table 1, What
agglutinogens are present on the patient’s RBC’s? A and B blood types
   c) What ABO agglutinin(s) is/are found in the patient’s Plasma? In anti A serum there is aggulation
in Anti B serum there aggulation and in Anti RH serum there isn’t aggulation.
   d) What is the patient’s blood type? AB
   e) If this patient needed a transfusion, what blood type(s) could this patient safely receive? Any
blood type could be used in a transfusion.
   f) What blood type(s) could safely receive this patient’s blood?Any blood type could be used in a
       transfusion.
2) Below is the information representing the blood type analysis of a new patient (patient X). From the
information obtained, fill out the medical technologist report.
   A: Agglutination Medical technologist’s report
B: No Agglutination ABO Type: Aggulation
Rh: Agglutination Rh Type: No aggulation
3) Compare and Contrast agglutinogens and agglutinins. In the diagram show at least 2 similarities and
   2 differences.
                    Agglutinogens Agglutinins
             Differences Similarities Differences
Red bllod cells Both stimulates some kind of White blood cells
                                                 cell

4) Pretend you went with your class on a medical career field trip to a local hospital. One of the stops
on the visit was to the hospital’s blood lab. The medical technologist at this stop gave a
demonstration of how blood types are determined. Your job is to write a paragraph for the school
newspaper on the visit to the blood lab, summarizing what you’ve learned about how ABO/Rh blood
groups are determined. Write a paragraph and include the title.
ABO is put into three different groups of blood types. A,B,AB, or O. If you need a blood transfusion
then you have to have the same type blood if you want to survive. If you do get the wrong type of
blood your veins can clog up and you will die because the blood cant go through the whole body to
where you really need it. Rh blood groups have specific factors to them. The genes encoding 2
distinct Rh proteins that carry C or c together with either E or e antigens, and the D antigen, have
been cloned, and the molecular bases of many of the antigens and of the phenotypes have been
   determined.

5) List at least 3 situations where blood typing could be used.
   a) See if you have cancer.
   b) See if your are pregnant.
   c) See if you have diabities.
6) Define Erythroblastosis Fetalis. Severe anemis in newborn babies.
   a) Describe the sequence of events that lead to this condition. This usually happens when the
childs mother has a Rh negative interits Rh positive from his/her father.
   b) What might be some benefits if the medical profession developed a shot or vaccination that
could desensitize an Rh+ situation? Then things would be a lot easier to handle and you wouldn’t
need to worry about the wrong type of blood or erythroblasts Fetalis.
7) You are a type A eryhthorocyte placing an ad in the personals and you are seeking a compatible
mate for a long lasting transfusion. Create an ad to be submitted to the newspaper.

Hello! I am looking for someone who could help me survive from my serious illness. It wasn’t me
who caused this on myself but my parents genetics. I have Erythroblasts Fetalis and I do not want to
live in fear of not making it tomorrow. All I need is a bllod transfusion and just a little bit of your
time. I am a type A blood carrier and anything at all would help save my life and maybe one day
    many others!

8) Another important diagnostic tool used by medical technologist is determining a patient’s blood cell
count, for both red blood cells and white blood cells. When this procedure is performed, one
technique used is to take multiple samples and calculate the average. This method of multiple
sampling is a standard procedure in scientific and medical investigations. Discuss why this method is
important in blood typing. This method is important to blood typing because you need to know the
number of both reb and white blood cells in your system.
9) Each year thousands of people contract blood borne diseases. What could be done in a clinical
blood lab to minimize the risk of obtaining or spreading a blood borne disease? If youre are planning
to have a child you could go to tehe doctor and try to make a plan and figure out if your child could
    upstand a devastating disese.
10) In a short paragraph, identify what you think may be the next important breakthrough, milestone or
discovery in the study of blood and blood diseases and explain why. I believe the next study or fix
would be to just be ready and ahead of the game and know when you may have genetics and give
your child a disese. I believe that people should have to go to the doctor and figure out their history
and what can happen in the future if they are not safe. If anything you could go and adopt of
anything to the point you want to have a healthy child.
