2018 has been a roller-coaster ride for blockchain technology mostly at the hands of cryptocurrencies – blockchain’s main beneficiary. Extreme price volatility, unsuccessful ICOs, fraud, cyber security issues, and negative press around cryptocurrency would have all but killed most emerging technologies. But not blockchain.
Blockchain is entering into a new evolutionary phase with the help of tech giants like IBM, Amazon and Google who recognize the wider applicability of blockchain as a game changer in data storage, commerce, and security. Even cryptocurrency is showing promising signs as it moves out of the domain of overnight Bitcoin millionaires (and more who have lost fortunes when speculating on cryptocurrencies) to risk averse financial heavyweights such as Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. Like the Internet, e-commerce, social media, and cloud computing before it, blockchain is on a fast track to become a ubiquitous technology.

I have been presenting blockchain and bitcoin to several companies and audiences in the past 2 years (mostly financial companies).
I started taking notes of their questions as it allows me to reconstruct their thought process while they discover and familiarize themselves with the concepts. These slides have been prepared for investment fund based in Luxembourg. I worked with the Head of Market Research to make the presentation tailored to their needs. Although we tried not to abuse simplifications, we had to gloss over many details and use analogies.
The team was particularly interested in the ecosystems and applications.
Here are the questions I could write down or remember, in their order. Hopefully they will help someone giving similar presentations to similar audiences.
+ Where is actually the blockchain?
+ Do I need all the blocks?

+ Why do miners would want to do work to validate transactions?
+ Could I mine myself? How?

Flow is a blockchain design that can meet the expectations of mainstream developers and consumers without compromising decentralization or sharding the network.
Blockchain is slowly disrupting every sector and the pace at which it is permeating every industry. Well, in the last decade if we have to talk about the sectors which have gained popularity, then digital marketing and Blockchain are two things which reign supreme.
Blockchain is the distributed ledger technology that is often associated with cryptocurrencies. However, over a period of time, Blockchain evolved, and now it finds a multitude of use cases. You can find Blockchain's prominent use in different fields like healthcare, finance, education, marketing, supply chain, and many others.

Technology has always led to innovation and transformation. At the same time, it has laid the foundation stone for new developments. The Blockchain is the latest buzz in the market. Irrespective of which business vertical you are talking about Blockchain continues to rule every discussion.
A Blockchain is essentially a distributed database of records or public ledger of all transactions or digital events that have been executed and shared among participating entities. Each transaction in the public ledger is verified by consensus of a majority of the participants in the system. And, once entered, information can never be erased. The Blockchain contains a certain and verifiable record pf every single transaction ever made. Bitcoin, the decentralized peer-to-peer digital currency, is the most popular example that uses block chain technology.
The Bitcoin itself is highly controversial but the underlying Block-chain technology has worked flawlessly and is all set to democratize our digital world. The main advantage of Block chain is that it establishes a system of creating a distributed consensus in the digital online world. It is finding applications in both financial (e.g. Nasdaq Private Equity, Insurance) and non-financial worlds (e.g. Decentralized IoT, Decentralized proof of existence of documents) by removing the dependency on a single Trusted entity. This disruptive technology opens the door for developing a democratic open and scalable digital economy from a centralized one.

One of the leading and the most innovative technologies, Blockchain finds application in almost all the business niches. Irrespective of the business domain, we find Blockchain helpful in establishing a transparent and clear platform for data or information exchange.
With the rise of Blockchain and cryptocurrency, there has been a surge in demand for Blockchain experts and professionals who can leverage this technology for the benefit of the businesses. But at the same time, it has also paved the way for many new budding entrepreneurs to venture into the Blockchain segment by providing blockchain-based applications and solutions, which will eventually help the business grow. Besides some of the big names in the business, we are also witnessing many startups and new names venturing into this business.

27 MAJOR BLOCKCHAIN APPLICATIONS AND REAL-WORLD USES.pdfYunusAdam1
Blockchain applications now go well beyond money and bitcoin. Technology is having an impact across a wide spectrum of organizations, from contract enforcement to government efficiency, due to its ability to promote openness and justice while also saving corporations time and money. This approach offers a much broader variety of applications.
Many people focus on cryptocurrencies, their speculative value, and how they may be utilized to make – or lose – a lot of money quickly when it comes to blockchain. This, however, does not do justice to the blockchain's incredible technology. Current and future breakthroughs have the potential to alter many industries.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

3. What Is Blockchain?
Blockchain was invented by a person (or group of people) using the name Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008 to serve as the public
transaction ledger of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.
The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is unknown.
The invention of the Blockchain for Bitcoin made it the first digital currency to solve the double-spending problem without the need of a
trusted authority or central server.
A Blockchain is mainly a growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked using cryptography.
Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data (generally represented as a Merkle tree).
What makes Blockchain unique is by design, a Blockchain is resistant to modification of the data. It is "an open, distributed ledger that can
record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way".
For use as a distributed ledger, a Blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for inter-
node communication and validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without
alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires consensus of the network majority. Although Blockchain records are not unalterable,
Blockchains may be considered secure by design and exemplify a distributed computing system with high Byzantine fault
tolerance. Decentralized consensus has therefore been claimed with a Blockchain.
4. Blockchain Domains vs. Traditional Internet Domains
Blockchain technology for domain names operates much differently than
traditional domains, where traditional domain names are regulated by ICANN
and the registrar operates as holder over the domain asset.
A traditional domain name registrar is known as companies like GoDaddy or
Google Domains. In such instance, ICANN is the international regulatory body
over traditional domain names and must approve applications for any new
domain extensions. Which companies must get permission to launch a new
extension by submitting an application to ICANN with a fee for their request.
The extension is created as part of the right to use a dot for .com or .info,
existence.

5. How Blockchain Domains Solve Problems For Global
Payment Processing?
Blockchain technology offers a secure solution for global payment processing to accept cryptographic payments.
When the Internet was first invented, this option wasn't available because payment processing was never a core essential in design
development at that time.
It's been 10 years since Bitcoin addresses have been replaced with readable words "such as Keywords" or names.
Replacing long cryptocurrency addresses with human-readable keywords in crypto for payments of goods and services is a disruptive
game-changer in the Payment Processing industry.
Uply Media, Inc. has already pre-ordered well over 40 Blockchain domain names related to disruptive hot industries that will replace cryptocurrency
