Experts immediately questioned the authenticity of an ancient Greek statue, called a kouros, that was presented to the Getty Museum. While scientific analysis concluded it was authentic, dating back thousands of years, several art historians had strong intuitive feelings that it was a forgery upon first seeing it. Their doubts were later confirmed as flaws were found in the documents of its provenance and its style emerged as a pastiche of elements from different time periods. The experts' initial rapid judgments, made within a couple seconds of looking, turned out to be more accurate than the Getty's extensive lengthy scientific investigation.
