Jordan, 25
I know I don’t want to be pregnant
right now. I do want to have kids in
the future but when I am ready. I
wanted something I could rely on.
With the pills I would forget all about
them so I would have to keep going
to the clinic to get test. I kind of got
worried about not having a period.
I don’t want to be pregnant right
now. But I do want to have kids in
the future. I just wanted to make
sure I am safe at all times.
I am not ready to have a family at this
point in my life. I was having a hard time
taking theme every day, and I had a few
scares.
I know that I am not ready for another baby.
My boyfriend didn’t want to use condoms but I
did. My doctor told me about the Nexplanon a
couple times before I decided to get it. I didn’t
know what it was, I never seen nobody with
it, I never heard about it. I didn’t even know
where it went. Then one of the nurses came in
she showed me her arm and said it’s easy, it
doesn’t hurt. Now, I don’t even notice it’s there!
For the first three months I had an irregular
period. The Nexplanon changed my life.
Kiana, 30
I don’t want to get sterilization because
I am only 30 and I may end up wanting
more kids, just not right now. I didn’t
have a period for the first two years of
having the implant. It’s like any other
form of birth control; you must use a
back up method to prevent STDs birth
control protects against pregnancy but
not STDs. I think it’s a very good method
of birth control and I am going to get it
re-inserted.
Sam, 27
I was looking for a form of birth
control that fit my lifestyle and
my lifestyle is not to remember to
take a pill every day. If someone
were to look at my arm they
wouldn’t be able to tell it’s there!
I’m 100% sure that I wont get
pregnant with the Nexplanon.

Frequently asked questions
What is Birth Control?
What if I can’t pay for it?
Is it safe not to get my period?
Can I take it out if I feel uncomfortable?
If my boyfriend and I have sex will it effect it?
Birth control is the act of preventing pregnancy. Methods
include medications, procedures, devices, and behaviors.
Whether you have your own health insurance, are on your
parents’ plan, or don’t have insurance at all, we’ve got you
covered. Many insurance plans, including Medicad cover
your services.
It is completly safe and healthy to not get
your period while being on birth control.
Any of the birth control methods can stop
being used whenever you feel like it.
If you are on birth control you will be fine. If
you feel different, go see a doctor.
The Implant: Nexplanon
What is it?
- Nexplanon is a flexible little rod
that rest under the skin in your
upper arm. A doctor or nurse puts
it there, but nobody else knows it’s
there. Besides them and you.
- It prevents pregnancy better
than any other kind of birth
control.
- It may cause irregular spotting or
bleeding, and some women stop
having a period.
How big is it?
Can you see it?
It is as small as a matchstick.
No. But if you pay real close
attention to someone’s arm that
has it, you can’t see it unless you
ask them to show it to you.
IUDs: Intrauterine Devices
What are they?
Some with hormones?
Some without hormones?
Plastic T’s that a nurse or doctor places
inside of your uterus. You can’t feel
them, but they prevent pregnancy
better than the other kinds of birth
control.
Mirena and Skyla are a low dose
progestin IUDs. After a few months, they
cause lighter periods. Some women stop
having periods all together.
The ParaGard is a non-hormonal IUD.
It is the only highly effective method
of birth control without hormonal side
effects.
IUDs and
implants
are the safest birth control.
