John has over 20 years of experience leading large operational and asset intensive businesses across various sectors in Australia, the Middle East, and Africa. He has expertise in operations, maintenance, risk management, projects, finance, and human resources. John now runs his own asset optimization consulting firm focusing on integrating asset performance with business objectives. He is also involved in delivering accredited asset management training in Australia. In his personal life, John enjoys playing squash and cricket in his free time.

Off a mechanical engineering base John has led activities across operations and maintenance in large multi-facetted
infrastructure and asset intensive businesses. He has provided concurrent executive leadership across Operations-
Production, Maintenance, Risk, Projects, Finance and Administration, and Human Resources portfolios.
John has provided leadership advice across a wide range of management sectors in Australia, the Middle East and
Africa. He has presented at professional forums on Leadership, Service Levels, Asset Management, Change
Management and Outsourcing/Privatisation.
John lives and breathes leadership as a critical operational and business success factor, his operational leadership
has involved dedicated, specialised technical teams as well as large operational teams.
John has served some 20 collective years on professional bodies (engineering and asset management) including
many years on a Professional Registration Committee – Engineering Council of South Africa.
Johns’ focus on asset management was born out of having been the “operator” and recipient of infrastructure, plant
and equipment ‘commissioned and handed over’ that was not quite up to the job. Too many times the design and
build rhetoric was simply not delivered resulting in major challenges and unnecessary cost and loss in the operations
and maintenance phase. Asset retro-modification and realignment of operating strategies resulted, more recently
defined as “Value Leakage”. This led to deeper involvement in driving a more (w)holistic approach to managing
assets across all lifecycle phases and in particular in their early lifecycle phases in maximising value. Optimising
asset performance has always been his focus and John has been able to apply this in leading operations and asset
management in multi-billion dollar undertakings.
Now running his own company “GO4GR8 Asset Optimisation Services” John specialises in optimising asset
contribution to the business based on integrating asset performance with business drivers and facilitating optimised
decision making. John is affiliated to the IQ-AM in delivering Australian Skills Quality Authority accredited training in
vocational AM, to post graduate level.
John and his wife of almost 40 years reside in Perth-WA. John is still active, playing WA Masters squash and the
occasional game of cricket. Hobbies include classic cars, motor sport and model aircraft.
