Building Information Modeling is a design and documentation methodology based on coordinated, high quality information. It enables design and construction teams to create and manage information about a building project consistently and reliably across the scope of the project. The information is stored in a single building model. This ensures that information is coordinated, consistent, and complete.

Private and Public Partnerships Move MainstreamKerry Carey
All across the country, infrastructure projects are in need of repair, and creative organizational solutions are in-demand. Public-Private Partnerships are long-term contracts between a private party and a government entity allowing for an alternative approach to federal, state and municipal construction projects. The private party bears a large share of risk and management responsibility, and remuneration is linked directly to performance. This webinar discusses the nature of this collaboration across sectors.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is more than a new technology;
it is an innovative approach to the entire design, construction, and
maintenance process. Many of the agencies and organizations
involved in the building industry have their own definitions of BIM,
but they all have a similar feel to that of the National BIM Standard

How Tekla BIM Modeling saving time for top structural engineering firms? | Te...Shubham Bhatnagar
Structural engineering consultants evaluate vertical and horizontal system loads, metallic systems and reinforced concrete for specific structural elements. Automatic structural drawing creation and 3D modeling facilitate automatic extraction of structural quantities within budget. The 5D cost estimates or 5d quantity takeoffs are significant structural engineering services during the early phases of the construction. Accurate measurement of building materials through Building Information Modeling allows measuring more in less time with strict adherence to project deadline.

The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

TEKLA STRUCTURAL DESIGNER
Trimble Navigation acquired Tekla in 2011 and CSC in November 2013. These two companies have now merged to create the Structures division of Trimble Buildings. This move has brought the benefits of the CSC suite of structural analysis tools to the Tekla brand.
So after 18 months of development work, Tekla announced the launch of Tekla Structural Designer in March this year– a comprehensive analysis tool bringing the combined benefits of the suite of Fastrak, Orion and Solve into one comprehensive design and analysis package.
TEDDS
In addition to these BIM products, Tekla also has Tedds. Often described by customers as the ‘go to’ product for structural engineering calculations, the Tedds’ library of calculations automates these processes and eliminates the need for hand calculations or cumbersome spreadsheets.
TEKLA BIMSIGHT
Tekla BIMsight is a free software product that offers a powerful way to access data, collaborate on projects, clash detect models and sequence a scheme amongst many other functions. A place that many people might start their BIM journey.
TEKLA FIELD 3D
If that wasn’t enough then Tekla can also offer mobile solutions in the form of Tekla Field 3D, a 3D tool for utilising any size of models on Apple devices, allowing stakeholders without desktop software to combine and view 3D models.
