Who Am I ?
My name is Bill Dillon. I am a 24 year old aspiring
Designer from Kerry and a recent graduate of the
University of Limerick. From my four years of study
andinternshipexperienceIhavelearnedthatProduct
Design is so much more than creating something
that simply looks good. Of course aesthetics are
crucial, but design is just as much about creating
a fantastic experience centered on the user and
delivering functionality that fills their needs. Now
that I have graduated I am eager continue learning
and gathering experience in the industry.

Final Year Design Project: Aura
This is Aura. Aura is a device
that soothes the symptoms
of asthma without the use of
medication.
It is an extremely simple
design based on an existing
breathing technique that
asthmatics already use to
ease their discomfort.
The entire body of work was
documented in a process
book which I will be delighted
to share with you.
How it Works.
One of the most important design
features driving this project
from day one was its simplicity.
I investigated what alternatives
asthmatics resorted to when
caught without their medication
and discovered the pursed lips
breathing technique.This method
of breathing uses positive air
pressure to hold the airways open
for slightly longer when exhaling.
Aura uses this concept byallowing
the user to inhale normally but
slightly restricts the flow on the
exhale, therefore increasing the
effort and air pressure required.

Particles from smoke, dust, cold air or
otherirritantsareinhaledintothelungs
triggering an attack.
These irritants cause the walls of the
airways to become inflamed and
restricted.
The pressure created by Aura holds the
walls of the airways open for longer.

user to expel more of what is causing
the attack with each breath.

Aura is a simple solution to relieving these symptoms
without medication. Aura creates pressure in the airways
and lungs as the user exhales. This pressure holds the
airways open longer, allowing more of the irritants causing
the attack to be expelled with each breath.
Existing Treatment for relief of asthma symptoms
is an effective drug called salbutamol which is inhaled
directly into the lungs. It relaxes the muscles around the
airways, increasing airflow. However users have identified
a number of key issues...
The bulky
inhaler needs
to be carried
everywhere.
Running out of
medication is a
recurring issue
Weeks or
even months
betweenattacks,
inhalers are
easily misplaced.

Marketing
Borad
For our end of year
exhibition I created
a marketing board
with Adobe CS to
showcase the design
and explain how Aura
works.
Design is an iterative process where
the best solution is found through
trial and error. Aura developed from
countless sketches and models of
different ideas. Learning how to
move through this process quickly
and efficiently is key.
Logitech Blok.
From January to February 2014 I worked
as a Design Intern for Logitech. During my
time here Logitech were developing a new
iPad protection case. Although I was not
involved in the ID of the product my primary
responsibility was for many of the earlier
iterations and concepts, this developed
my skills in sketching and making rough
models. I also took part in prototyping and
3D printing more refined versions of Blok
later in the project with my supervisor.
Being part of the Logitech team provided
me with first hand experience of areas such
as testing of prototypes, materials selection,
manufacturing and ID.
Although the details of this project are under
a Non Discloseure agreemnt please find my
supervisor Padraig Murphey as a reference
on my CV.
Logitech Design Camp
From July to September 2015 Logitech
ran Design Camp with two other Product
Design graduates and myself. Our task was
to explore the wants and needs of Logitech’s
potential target market.
Unfortunately this project is under a Non
Disclosure Agreement which limits the level
of detail I can discuss. Please find our project
supervisor Denis O Keefe as a reference on
my CV.
The project involved extensive research to
build a picture of who the target market
were and what they wanted. Our team was
small and worked very closely for 3 months
which allowed me develop my team work
skills further. Additionally preparing to
present our work was of huge benefit to my
skills using the Adobe creative Suite. To the
right are some examples of our Adobe CS
work.

A 30 year old professional
working in finance. He has
a sizeable group of friends
with whom he socialises
with regularly but is in his
element and most creative
when he is alone.
He enjoys running, eating
out, and weekend trips
with friends. He is an urban
dweller with a hectic job so
decompressing at the end
of the day is important.
His artistic outlets include
photography which he
shares via Instagram with
a network of fellow artists
who inspire him.
Mark not only likes to share
photographs he takes but
also to share smaller more
intimate experiences he
has in his day, whether out
socialising or relaxing at

what his friends are up to
right now, if its interesting,
or if he feels like doing
something.
