Data refers to information that is represented in a way that allows for processing and usage, while big data specifically refers to extremely large and diverse data sets that grow rapidly in volume, velocity, and variety. Big data differs from standard data in that it handles much larger volumes of information, uses tools like Hadoop and Spark to process and generate insights from huge amounts of data, while standard data analysis focuses on understanding patterns in smaller data sets using tools like Python, SAS, and R.
