WHEN
AT
THE
EDGE
WHAT IS
HAPPENING TO
ELIJAH?
Elijah has been in
his hardest days as
he was being
persecuted by
Jezebel.
The same as how Elijah felt that
he is at the edge, we seldom
think the same as him.

4 But he himself went a
day’s journey into the
wilderness, and came and
sat down under a juniper
tree: and he requested for
himself that he might die;
and said, It is enough; now,
O LORD, take away my life;
for I am not better than my
fathers.
I KING 19:4
5 And as he lay and slept
under a juniper tree,
behold, then an angel
touched him, and said unto
him, Arise and eat.
I KING 19:5
ARISE
and
EAT
AWAY FROM OUR BED
The Lord wants us to get up
from our short escape of His
reality, our SLEEP.
Too much and too less sleep
are indicators of
hopelessness and worriness.
ARISE
and
EAT
AWAY FROM OUR
MINDS
The Lord wants us to focus
on what's important. As our
body serves as God's temple,
the simplest of food would
mean a lot.
Food deprivation and
overconsumption are
common reaction to stress
and anxiety.
6 And he looked, and,
behold, there was a cake
baken on the coals, and a
cruse of water at his head.
And he did eat and drink,
and laid him down again.
I KING 19:6
7 And the angel of the LORD
came again the second time,
and touched him, and said,
Arise and eat; because the
journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat
and drink, and went in the
strength of that meat forty
days and forty nights unto
Horeb the mount of God.
I KING 19:7-8
The word "ARISE" in the
Bible has always signifies
reliance on God's power
and grace. It's another
morning or another chance.
[Isaiah 60:1-2; Ephesians
5:14] It is a remark for
healing [Acts 3:6]

HOW CAN ONE BE
ALONE BUT STILL BE
WITH SOMEONE?
God's irony has always
been common in the lives
of His people.
9 And he came thither unto a
cave, and lodged there; and,
behold, the word of the LORD
came to him, and he said unto
him, What doest thou here,
Elijah?
I KING 19:9
ALONE
with
THE CAVE
Elijah's action was an attempt to
hide from God and deal with his
sufferings alone.
We tend to try to do our own way
to solve our struggles, even
though we all know we are going
to fail.
But often times, God wants us to
isolate ourselves from the world,
so he can deal with us personally.
10 And he said, I have been
very jealous for the LORD God
of hosts: for the children of
Israel have forsaken thy
covenant, thrown down thine
altars, and slain thy prophets
with the sword; and I, even I
only, am left; and they seek my
life, to take it away.
I KING 19:10
ALONE
with
THE CALL
God's action to ask Elijah of His
reasons, the same as how he talks
to His people, is a mark of kinship
and closeness.
Elijah's answer is a reflection of his
distaste towards what's
happening to his life.
Elijah seems to have forgotten the
Lord's power.
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand
upon the mount before the LORD.
And, behold, the LORD passed by,
and a great and strong wind rent
the mountains, and brake in pieces
the rocks before the LORD; but the
LORD was not in the wind: and after
the wind an earthquake; but the
LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire;
but the LORD was not in the fire: and
after the fire a still small voice.
I KING 19:10-11
"THE
LORD
WAS
NOT
THERE"
BUT THE LORD WAS
NOT IN THE WIND
BUT THE LORD WAS
NOT IN THE
EARTHQUAKE
BUT THE LORD WAS
NOT IN THE FIRE
ALONE
with
THE CHALLENGE
It is when we are at the edge that
we tend to forget God, but it is
also during those times that He
will remind us of His power and
presence, in any form, assuring us
with the "small still voice"
Even in the difficult challenges, we
can always hear that small voice
of hope, reminding us that we are
not alone.
13 And it was so, when Elijah
heard it, that he wrapped his
face in his mantle, and went
out, and stood in the entering
in of the cave. And, behold,
there came a voice unto him,
and said, What doest thou
here, Elijah?
I KING 19:13
14 And he said, I have been
very jealous for the LORD God
of hosts: because the children
of Israel have forsaken thy
covenant, thrown down thine
altars, and slain thy prophets
with the sword; and I, even I
only, am left; and they seek my
life, to take it away. .
I KING 19:10-11
The Lord's CHALLENGES
may sometimes, even often,
seem hopeless. We may not
even feel His presence. But
we have to keep in mind,
that those CHALLENGES are
actually Him himself
reminding us of His
presence.

WHAT IF HIS ANSWER
TO OUR PLEA AND
BURDEN SEEMS TO
BE DIFFERENT FROM
WHAT WE WANT?
God's understanding is
beyond ours. He may not
give what we want, but it is
always what He thinks we
need.
15 And the LORD said unto him,
Go, return on thy way to the
wilderness of Damascus: and
when thou comest, anoint Hazael
to be king over Syria:
16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi
shalt thou anoint to be king over
Israel: and Elisha the son of
Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt
thou anoint to be prophet in thy
room.
I KING 19:15-16
17 And it shall come to pass,
that him that escapeth the
sword of Hazael shall Jehu
slay: and him that escapeth
from the sword of Jehu shall
Elisha slay. 18 Yet I have left
me seven thousand in Israel,
all the knees which have not
bowed unto Baal, and every
mouth which hath not kissed
him.
I KING 19:17-18

ISRAEL'S PUNISHMENT
He wants Israel to repent from their
trespasses to the Lord.
APPOINT NEW KINGS
Elijah no longer wants to cross path
with Jezebel, yet he was told to
appoint kings which seems the
opposite of what he tries to avoid.
ANOINT NEW PROPHET
A new prophet means Israel still
have chances and connections
from the Lord.

ACCEPTING God's ANSWER
requires full reliance to God
and His will. We are not
aware of the future that's
we need to rely on Him
more. We ask God the
answer, just like Elijah, at
the end, we must always
accept.
