1) A student in a rural village school in Sabah, Malaysia was much more intelligent than her classmates. She would finish her work quickly and disrupt the other students.
2) The teacher created special additional work just for the intelligent student to keep her occupied without disturbing others. He explained that she was selected for this special task because of her abilities.
3) This strategy was effective in motivating the student and preventing disruptions. Other teachers agreed with the approach but some suggested she could then help other struggling students after completing her own work.

CASE-BASED METHOD
CASE
CONTEXT Sk. Kaingaran located 65 km from the Ranau town and takes a
two hour journey by agravel road. Consequently, pupils are rarely
exposed to the outside world due to lack of vehicles in and out of
the village. Most pupils have moderate learning curve, except for
a few children of civil servants, teachers, hospital staff and
children of the village who have income sources such as dealers,
contractors and others. Thus, the presence of some intelligent
and smart students in the class which the majority of pupils are
weak and medium, sometimes raises an imbalance in the class
DILEMMA There is a girl student in Year 3. She is a daughter of teachers in
secondary schools nearby. Before, she attended school in the
town but had to move because of the parents who migrate to
SMK Ulu Sugut Ranau. The students are very intelligent and
quite smart compare to the other pupils in the class. Each of the
tasks given is very easy for her even though the other students
found it difficult to complete the task. The assignments can be
solved quickly by her. As such, she would roam the classroom
and disturbing other pupils. This causes a problem in the class
because she always disrupts other pupils and makes them
unable to complete the tasks.
SOLUTION To solve the problem, I have to plan and prepare some special
2. set of questions to be solved by the students. At first, she felt just
a bit rebellious because she was given more work while other
friends did not get any other additional tasks. However, I have
explained to her and give enthusiasm and motivation by saying
that she was selected students and a very smart student.
Therefore, she should be given a special task to shows that she
was a special. The strategy appears to be effective and have
increased her motivation to complete additional tasks.
RESPONSE Other teachers in the school also agreed with my actions.
However, there are a few who suggested that, after the students
complete the assignment, she may be appointed to help other
poor students. Therefore, he will not interfere anymore but to
benefit his advantage to help other friends.
