Activities
Day 1 – After you arrive in Paro international airport, you will be received by our
representative from Colorful Bhutan Travels.
The flight into Paro on Druk Air/Bhutan airlines (only international flight) is a befitting introduction
to the spectacular beauty of Bhutan. If the weather is clear you can see magnificent views of the
peaks, give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land on arrival at Paro international airport.
Check in Hotel with welcoming tea or coffee. After lunch we will drive towards the ruins of
Drugyel Dzong, the dzong was built in 1649 under the behest of Zhabdrung Ngawang
Namgyal to commemorate victory of an invasion from Tibet. In early 1950s, the dzong was
almost completely destroyed by fire. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan’s Tentative List
for UNESCO inclusion. On the way to Drugyel Dzong we will stop for a while at the view
point where you can see the Tigers Nest which you will be hiking on your last day of the
tour. Today’s short drive is mainly to let you all acclimatize to the altitude. If time permits
take a leisurely walk around Paro town.

Day 2 -Drive to Thimphu passing through mountains, which takes about 1 ½ hour’s drive and
we will directly check into hotel. Later we will Visit National memorial Chorten which was
built in 1974 in the memory of our Third king H.M Jigme Doji Wangchuk , who had wished
to erect a monument to world peace and prosperity, died before his plan came to fruition.
However the Royal family and Cabinet resolved to fulfill his wishes. Then we will Visit Folk
Heritage Museum: it is a restored three-storey traditional rammed mud and timber that
resembles the rural household in the Thimphu area during the mid 19th century, domestic
tools equipments that were used by rural families of that period and also provides you a
glimpse of lifestyle, items and artifacts of Bhutanese villages and rural households.
Later after lunch we will be visiting The National Institute of Zorig Chusum: is
the center for Bhutanese Art education. It was set up by the Government of Bhutan with the
sole objective of preserving the rich culture and tradition of Bhutan and training students in
all the traditional arts forms. The curricula cover a comprehensive course of drawing,
painting, wood and slate craving, embroidery, sculptures, weaving and paper making. Then
we will visit Buddha Point (KuenselPhodrang): Another place from where you can get a
good overview of the Thimphu valley is from the Buddha point. It is a short drive from the
town. You can pay your obeisance and offer to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country
and then walk and take a glimpse of the valley.Then we will visit Jungshi Home Made
Paper factory (jungshi meaning natural) which was established in 1990. It was established to
expand the old domestic skill for commercial purposes. One can get a closer look at all the
steps involved in the manufacturing process, from raw material to finished product. . Later in
the evening we will be visiting Tashichhoe Dzong the “Fortress of Auspicious Religion”
where today like most of the other fortresses in Bhutan serves as the Administrative and
Religious Center. Evening at leisure in Thimphu town.
Overnight in Thimphu
Day 3 –Thimphu - Punakha Valley
After early breakfast we will visit the weaving center which is privately owned. There you
can also witness live weaving. They also have a shop where if you are interested you may
buy their finished products. Then we will drive to Punakha (3 hours’ drive), crossing Dochula
pass 3050m, it is one of the most beautiful pass among all the passes, it is surrounded of 108
chortens (Stupas) with fluttering prayer flags, on a clear day you will see all the Himalayan
mountain peaks, descending to Punakha is the sub-tropical vegetation, where farmer grows
all most all kind of fruits and cash crops. Then visit Chimi Lhakhang(temple) also known
popularly as the “fertility temple”. This temple is reputed for granting children to couples
who come to seek blessings for a child. People who come to this temple are blessed with a
wooden phallus with a silver handle and the bow and arrows of the famous 15thcentury
Buddhist saint called “Drukpa Kuenley” to whom this temple is dedicated. Then we will
check into the hotel and take a rest. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 4 – Punakha – Khamsum Yuelay Namgyel Chorten & Wangdue Phodrang Dzong

After breakfast drive through Punakha Valley. For further exploration of this scenic valley,
the destination for this morning, hike up through the farm land to Khamsum Yuelay Namgyel
Chorten,a shrine built by royal family a startlingly ornate and elaborate structure with images
of VajraKila and superb view of Punakha Valley. The hike will take around 3 hour’s. After
lunch we will Visit Punakha Dzong located in between two rivers, mo Chu (Female River)
from its left and pho Chu (Male River) from its right, it was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung
Ngawang Namgyel in commanding position at the confluence. The Dzong was called Druk
Pungthang Decchen Phodrang (the palace of Great Happiness) in olden days and arguably the
country’s most attractive Dzong
Then we will drive towards WangdiPhodrang and visit WangduePhodrang Dzong built in
1638, the third oldest Dzong in Bhutan- recently the Dzong was completely burnt down by
fire. We can see the burnt Dzong and then Drive back to Punakha.

Day 5 - Punakha – Paro.
After breakfast drive back to DochuLa Pass for a second chance to see wonderful view of the
Himalayan range. Returning to Chhuzom or confluence we catch a glimpse of three Chortens
in Nepali, Tibetan and Bhutanese style which were built to ward off evil spirits near the
check point.Time permitting the journey can break with the visit to Tamchok Lhakhang
built by Thangthong Gyelpo or the Iron bridge builder as he is known. This former saint from
the 15th century introduced the art of building suspension bridges with iron chains.After lunch
we will be visiting Paro National Museum. It was established in 1968, in the renovated
ancient Ta-dzong building under the command of His Majesty, the king Jigme Dorji
Wangchuk. It houses for some of the finest specimens of Bhutanese art, including
masterpieces of bronze statues and painting. Suitable galleries were constructed to house the
extensive collections. The works of art is elegantly displayed on scientific lines. After the
museum we will visit Paro Rinpung Dzong. Under the command of Zhabdrung Ngawang
Namgyal the dzong was built in 1646 and it was established as administrative and monastic
centre of the western region and it became known as Rinpung Dzong (meaning Heap of
Jewels). The dzong is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan’s Tentative List for UNESCO
inclusion.
Day 6- Day Hike to Tiger Nest.
After breakfast, we will drive back to Paro and conclude our visit to the Dragon Kingdom
with a hike to the magical temple known as Taktsang (the “Tiger’s Nest). Taktsang is one of
the most sacred pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan World. The temple itself is perched on a

granite cliff that drops 2,000 feet to the valley floor. The name is derived from a legend that
Guru Rinpoche flew across the mountains to this spot on the back of a tigress,
Reaching a cave in which he meditated for three months, converting the people of Paro
Valley to Buddhism during his stay. The path takes us through a forest of oak and
rhododendron, arriving at a small chorten surrounded by prayer flags. With a little more
effort, we will reach a tea-house and a spectacular view of Taktsang. That will be our lunch
stop. Those who choose can hike further, to an overlook that is almost at eye level with the
temple.
Later in the evening we will arrange a Cultural Show. You will be witnessing our
traditional folk dances and also mask dances which are usually performed during the famous
festival called Tshechu here in Bhutan. Colorful Bhutan Travels arranges cultural show for

Tour Programs booked and subsequently cancelled shall be subject to cancellation charges as

45 days or more prior to arrival date in Bhutan– no charges
45-30 days prior to arrival date in Bhutan – 20% of rate
22– 29 days prior to arrival date in Bhutan - 30% of rate
15-21 days prior to arrival date in Bhutan – 50% of rate
Less than 15 days prior to arrival date in Bhutan – No Refund
An Administration fee of USD75 will be applicable for all cancelled tours
In the event of cancelled or shortened trips due to unforeseen reasons after arrival in Bhutan,
no refund will be made due to the company already having paid for hotels and other logistics.
No refund will be made for missed connections or no show at the airports.
