The Bongnjo foundation was founded in 2008 in Cameroon to promote human development and empower youth through community programs. It implements projects in the Ndu region focusing on youth football tournaments that provide HIV/AIDS education and screening to 15,000 people annually. The foundation also aims to increase civic engagement and support youth education with scholarships and entrepreneurship training to over 150 young people.

2. Overview
Bongnjo foundation was founded in 2008 to promote human
development through youth-focused progressive community
action. It was incorporated in 2011 as a national non-profit
and non-governmental organization and seeks to use sport as
a tool to rally and empower young people to grow up into
confident, well-rounded,
healthy and responsible
citizen that are influential in
their community.
BF currently implements
several pilot projects in the
Ndu Sub-division, a
community of more than
78,000 people and 17
villages of the North West
region, Cameroon. The
Bongnjo Football
tournament with youth
entrepreneurship workshops and HIV/AIDS education and
free screening as side events, was first organised in 2007.
Every year, it attracts 15,000 people. In 2011, the
organisation added a civic engagement component to its work
to reduce youth abstention from elections.

3. What we do
BF pursues its vision and missions through wide-ranging
activities that contribute to the overall objective of the
organisation. The following shortlist is indicative:
• Promote health education especially with respect to
HIV/AIDS and reproductive health;
• Identify and promote youth talent in sports and arts;
• Support youth education through the provision of
scholarships;
• Promote youth self-reliance through training in small
business management

4. Our actions
Since its creation, BF has impacted the lives of more than
15,000 people in 17 villages through different concrete
actions. Here are some results:
• Four soccer tournaments with 52 teams, 1404 players
and officials organised in 17 villages
• More than 15,000 people reached with HIV/AIDS
education message
• 672 people tested for HIV for free
• Advocacy resulting in the creation of an HIV/AIDS
treatment centre in Ndu
• Mobilisation of 250 young people, local administrative
and security officials for the planting of 800 water-
friendly tree species around water catchments in Ndu
to regenerate and protect the town’s natural
watershed.

5. • Over 3000 young people encouraged to register and
vote in the 2011 presidential election;
• More than 370 young people assisted to obtain
national identity cards to permit them register for 2011
and subsequent elections;

entrepreneurs on basic business management and

• Donated 100 helmets to professional urban transport
