Have limited time monitoring complex projects? Need to be fast on your feet during your teams’ standups? It’s a daunting task to keep track of the current work in flight. Steve Dempsen shares a mnemonic technique―WATCH—to help you think of and articulate critical questions to ask on the fly. For story cards remember W―Where is the card? Where should it be? A―What is the average time for a story this size? Are we on schedule? T―What is the status of testing? Test coverage and complexity? C―Is the story complete? consistent? And H―Is help needed? Who should we turn to? With limited time and complex subjects, ScrumMasters can use each letter in WATCH to quickly help their teams remain aware of the key aspects of development and remain focused on delivering effective solutions.

2017 One Metric to Rule Them All: Effectively Measure Your Teams without Subj...Cheryl M Hammond
If you don't know how to measure what you want, you'll end up wanting what you can measure. Most often the thing you want to know isn't easily quantifiable, and common proxy metrics are usually poorly correlated with the information you actually need. Measuring the wrong things is worse than nothing—a toxic metric can damage your teams' performance.
With the right data, you can change the conversation. Tell your team's authentic story to management, your customers, and beyond. Step away from dangerous metrics that punish unfairly. Quit wasting time with metrics that are easily gamed. Instead, choose effective metrics to get everyone on the same page about what's important.
Whether you're the measurer or the measuree, in this session, you'll learn not just which metrics work, but why and how. Our examples will focus mainly on team, project, and program metrics, with theoretical guidance to inform all kinds of measures including portfolio and organization. Understand the difference between true metrics and proxy metrics, and good proxies and evil ones. Discover a framework for evaluating any metric, a Hall of Shame covering some of the worst most popular benchmarks, and one true guide to point you to the very best metrics of all. See some great examples of visualization that make metrics sing, and leave with several concrete measures you can begin tracking as soon as you get back to your desk.

Why don't people adopt the changes we design to benefit them? It is a function of 1) Team bias towards believing they know what end users will want, and; 2) An environment that requires teams to “protect” themselves by showing constant short-term progress. Collecting and utilizing early unbiased feedback will help you balance the effort vs. value equation for your users / customers, leading to quicker uptake.
Doing Analytics Right - Designing and Automating AnalyticsTasktop
There is no “one-sized fits all” of development analytics. It is not as simple as “here are the measures you need, go implement them.” The world of software delivery is too complex, and software organizations differ too significantly, to make it that simple. As discussed in the first webinar, the analytics you need depend on your unique business goals and environment.
That said, the design of your analytics solution will still require:
* The dashboards,
* the required data, and
* an appropriate choice of analytical techniques and statistics to apply to the data.
This webinar will describe a straightforward method for finding your analytic solution. In particular, we will explain how to adapt the Goal, Question, Metric (GQM) method to development processes. In addition, we will explain how to avoid “the light is brighter here” analytics anti-pattern: the idea that organizations tend to design metrics programs around the data they can easily get, rather than figuring out how to get the data they really need.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.
Data Centers - Striving Within A Narrow Range - Research Report - MCG - May 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”

Phase 2 -
Data Prep
This is where you assess and prepare
the data needed.
1. Assess - do you have enough good data to
answer your business problem
2. Create Clarity - matching technical data
definitions to business jargon
3. Explore - are you familiar with the data you’re
using
4. Prep - transform your data as needed to
answer business problems, questions

Phase 3 -
Model Plan
This is where you select what
visualizations answer your questions
best.
1. Revisit your plan - what do your
visualizations need to answer
2. Understand inputs - what data is required to
answer your questions
3. Identify dimensions / measures - how many
of each do you need to answer a question
4. Assess visualization options - which
visualizations can you use given the number
of dimensions, measures - more on this at end of
presentation
5. Sketch it out: draw out your visualizations
and dashboards - do they make sense

Phase 4 -
Model Build
This is where you build visualizations
in Tableau.
1. Start small - build out one visualization at a
time
2. Attention to detail - focus on colors, sizes,
labels, annotations, axis, and aggregate
functions that make sense
3. Assess what you built - does it look accurate,
make sense, avoid intolerable mistakes, need
more data...

Phase 5 -
Communicate
Results
This is where stakeholders assess if
the visualizations produce the desired
outcomes.
1. Involve the right roles - business users and
project sponsors assess the outcomes
2. Assess outcomes - do the visualizations
answer the defined questions, produce
desired outcome
3. Did you fail / learn? - identify & document
what’s missing, go back to phase three
4. Did you find success? - identify & document
key findings & major insights, move to phase
six

Phase 6 -
Operationalize
This is where the visualizations are
integrated into day-to-day operations.
1. Communicate benefits - w/ project sponsors,
business users, & first adopters
2. Use a pilot project - deploy visualizations in a
controlled way w/ Tableau Online
3. Manage risk - by starting small, mastering
feedback loops and updates before deploying
department / company wide
4. Drive adoption - communicate value & how to
use w/ stakeholders & users via
presentations & weekly standups
