• #4 How East and West Germany formed? In June of 1948, the French, British and American Zones were joined into the nation of West Germany after the Soviets refused to end their occupation of Germany. After WW2, Germany was divided between East and West.
• #5 The Capital of Berlin, deep within Soviet-controlled East Germany was also divided.

• #7 Within weeks, the wire fence was fortified with concrete. And a second fence was built in June, 1962.
• #8 The area between the two became known as “ The Death Strip”.
• #9 Construction began on an even more secure wall, called the “Border Wall 75”, in 1975. It took 5 years to complete. This wall had 45,000 sections of reinforced concrete. Tall 12ft, wide 2.7ft, weight: 3 tons each.
• #10 The new Berlin Wall included: 79 miles of fencing, nearly 300 watchtowers, more than 250 guard dos runs, 20bunkers, and 65 miles of anti-vehicle trenches.
• #18 The border was a physical representation of Winston Churchill’s metaphor of an Iron Curtain, separating Eastern and Western Germany during the Cold War. It marked the boundary between the two ideologies – Communism and Democracy

What Did It Represent?
• #20 The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990.

• #23 Unified (統一) In less than a year, the wall was in tatters, and the Iron Curtain was being pulled back. Germany, fractured for four decades, was united once more.
