2. ASME Pressure Vessels-
• Pressure Vessels are closed containers designed to hold gases and
liquids at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure.
• Pressure Vessels are designed to Section VIII, Division 1 of ASME which
provides requirements applicable to the design, fabrication, inspection,
testing and certification of Pressure Vessels operating at either internal
or external pressures exceeding 15 psig.
• A vessel that is inadequately designed to handle a high pressure
constitutes a very significant safety hazard. Because of that, the design
and certification of high pressure vessels is governed by design codes
such as the BPVC standard in North America, the Pressure Equipment
Directive of the EU (PED / CE), CSA B51 in Canada (CRN).
