Prime Minister Netanyahu gave a controversial speech to a joint session of Congress arguing against Iran's nuclear program. His speech was opposed by many Arabs, Israelis, and Democrats but supported by Republicans. Large protests both supporting and opposing Netanyahu's address occurred in Washington D.C. and other cities. In his speech, Netanyahu questioned Iran's intentions regarding nuclear weapons and accused Iranian leaders of terrorism and anti-Semitism. The partisan divide in Congress was highlighted by over 50 Democrats refusing to attend. Outside protests challenged Netanyahu and criticized Israel's policies toward Palestine and African immigrants.

Effective Speech
Part 1: Testing the Strength of Supporting Material
20th September 2001 is a day that saw President George Walker Bush address the whole nation in a Joint Session of Congress in the wake of terror attacks that rocked the nation on 11th September, 2011. The citizens of America demanded an address by the president as the nation desperately needed direction and aid in dealing with what was the most horrific of terror attacks against US. Emotions and fear were common among persons across. People had numerous questions that needed to be answered and major services in the nation were halting (Washington Post, 2001, Bush, 2001).
The speech by President Bush was effectively communicated to the audience. The general purpose of the speech was persuade and inspire unity, strength and belief among the people of America. The president referenced the togetherness, generosity and helping hand shown towards those in need during the unfortunate event to influence more solidarity, hope and strength going into the future. The specific purpose of the speech was to provide response and direction for the people. In this the president promptly declared major repercussions for terrorists and their supporters. His assurance of more putting more efforts and resources to ensuring security of US citizens, defending their freedom and in dealing with terror threats effectively quelled fears and asserted sense of stability and pride among American people.
Types of Supporting Material, Usage and Evaluation
Some of the main supporting materials President Bush utilized were examples, statistics and testimonies. The president used examples to reinforce ideas and make them more concrete. He used several examples of goodwill from people in the nation and across the globe to emphasize solidarity and support during those uncertain times. Such examples were Todd Beamer who helped in rescuing survivors, the well-wishers who raised 40$ billion for recovery efforts and the massive support that was received from international communities. He also used the examples of past attacks such as one in 1941 and Iraq to show just how serious this terror attack was, and past incidences committed by those terrorists in Tanzania and Kenya. These examples showed that terror threats were global crises and emphasized the importance of getting every help possible in the fight against terrorists. This worked efficiently in giving some much-needed answers and reassuring people of prospering over the tough times (McGaan, 2000).
President Bush used testimonies or statements to further dishonor terrorists and show their flawed ideologies. Examples of such statements are observed in his reference of terrorists’ notion of religion to be fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been even rejected by almost all Muslim clerics. The president’s use of some statements showed how backward ...
Israel and Palestine conflict isn't a new event. It started a long ago. Here is a short description on Palestine Genocide and which stages it according to Lemkin.
Article in The Times of Israel by Andy Blumenthal: PM Netanyahu stands out not only for having been the longest serving Prime Minister of Israel (winning six times) and leading for over fifteen years, but for his undying vision and execution of peace through strength. Certainly, I could write of his heroism as an Israeli commando (and that of his dear older brother Yoni, who tragically perished in the Rescue at Entebbe), his miraculous rescue of Israel’s finances and remake of the country into a genuine economic success story, and his unflinching determination to prevent a Palestinian terror state next to Israel and to thwart the existential Iranian nuclear threat. However, I think there is no better expression of Bibi’s core love for his people and Israel than that of his own words in his countless brilliant arguments and eloquent speeches at the United Nations, Congress, and with world leaders in defense of Israel’s legitimacy and right to exist and defend itself.

How Stephen Miller Seized the Moment to Battle Immigration
By Jason DeParle
The New York Times
August 27, 2019
WASHINGTON—When historians try to explain how opponents of immigration
captured the Republican Party, they may turn to the spring of 2007, when George W.
Bush threw his waning powers behind a legalization plan and conservative populists
buried it in scorn.
Mr. Bush was so taken aback, he said he worried about America “losing its soul,” and
immigration politics have never been the same.
That spring was significant for another reason, too: An intense young man with wary,
hooded eyes and fiercely anti-immigrant views graduated from college and began a
meteoric rise as a Republican operative. With the timing of a screenplay, the man and
the moment converged.
Stephen Miller was 22 and looking for work in Washington. He lacked government
experience but had media appearances on talk radio and Fox News and a history of
pushing causes like “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.” A first-term congresswoman
from Minnesota offered him a job interview and discovered they were reading the same
book: a polemic warning that Muslim immigration cold mean “the end of the world as
we know it.”
By the end of the interview, Representative Michele Bachmann had a new press
secretary. And a dozen years later, Mr. Miller, now a senior adviser to President Trump,
is presiding over one of the most fervent attacks on immigration in American history.
The story of Mr. Miller’s rise has been told with a focus on his pugnacity and paradoxes.
Known more for his enemies than his friends, he is a conservative firebrand from liberal
Santa Monica, Calif., and a descendant of refugees who is seeking to eliminate refugee
programs. He is a Duke graduate in bespoke suits who rails against the perfidy of so-
called elites. Among those who have questioned his moral fitness are his uncle, his
childhood rabbi and 3,400 fellow Duke alumni.
Less attention has been paid to the forces that have abetted his rise and eroded
Republican support for immigration — forces Mr. Miller has personified and advanced
in a career unusually reflective of its times.
Rising fears of terrorism after the Sept. 11 attacks brought new calls to keep immigrants
out. Declining need for industrial labor left fewer businesses clamoring to bring them in.
A surge of migrants across the South stoked a backlash in the party’s geographic base.
Conservative media, once divided, turned against immigration, and immigration-
reduction groups that had operated on the margins grew in numbers and sophistication.
Abandoning calls for minority outreach, the Republican Party chose instead to energize
2
its conservative white base — heeding strategists who said the immigrant vote was not
just a lost cause but an existential threat.
Arriving in Washington as these forces coalesced, Mr. Miller rode the tailwinds with zeal
and skill. Warning of terrorism and disturbed by multic ...

1. Protests within and outside ofCongresserupt surrounding Netanyahu’s address to Congress
On Tuesday,March 3, Prime Minister Netanyahu argued against Iran’snuclear programbefore a joint
session of Congress. The speech was opposed by Arabs, Israelis, and Democrats alike, but welcomed by
members of the Republican party such as Sen. John McCain and Speakerof the House John Boehner.
Both protesters and supporters alike convened on Capitol Hill and citiesnationwide to voice their
opinions on this historic address.
WASHINGTON - The speech begun officially at 11 AM as Prime Minister Netanyahu prepared to speak
before the meeting.
“I know that my speech has been the subject of much controversy,” he stated. “I deeply regret
that some perceive my being here as political. That was never my intention.”
Throughout his address,he recalled Israeli history, thanked America for its unwavering support,
and, more often, questioned Iran’s intentions with a nuclear program by accusing Iran’s Supreme Leader
Ayatollah Khamenei of anti-Semitism by way of violent tweets.
He also claimed that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatens to nuke Israel: “[Nasrallah]
said: If all the Jews gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of chasing them down around the world.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Netanyahu spoke openly about his fears of a nuclear Iranian state;
on Sept. 29 when addressing the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu proclaimed that Ayatollah Khomeini
once vowed to dominate the world with his militant Islamic doctrine.
“You know, to say that Iran doesn’t practice terrorism is like saying Derek Jeter never played
shortstop for the New York Yankees,” Netanyahu said. “ ...this bemoaning by the Iranian president of the
spread of terrorism has got to be one of history’s greatest displays of doubletalk.”
While the Senate was packed with noted senators such as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (as well as special guest award-winning author of Night,Elie
Wiesel), over 50 congressional Democrats refused to attend the event, indicating partisan complications
within the House.
During the speech,Israelis For a Sustainable Future protested outside the Israeli consulate in New
York City. Hunter College student and activist Abraham Gutman claims that “Bibi does not speak for us.”
“Every year, there’s a cycle of violence…” he says. “Israelis live in fear of bombing from Iran,
because Netanyahu uses Iran as a silver bullet for any issue [Israelis] want to discuss. It’s not
sustainable.”
The previous night on Monday, March 2, Netanyahu spoke at the annual American IsraelPublic
Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in which he defends his coming address to Congress. Upon leaving, he was
greeted with hundreds of protesters on Capitol Hill, some holding a banner which read NETANYAHU:
WAR CRIMINAL in red, black, and green.
Many of these protestors joined together under Veterans for Peace, the Coalition to End the
Israeli Occupation, and Code Pink.
Michael Sampson of the Dream Defenders explains was in attendance and explains their mission:
“The goals were to raise awareness and challenge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
AIPAC. Israelis an apartheid nation that persecutes the people of Palestine and African immigrants...Our
message is for the U.S. government to end all foreign aid to Israel.”
Since Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address, the US and Iran have moved forward in talks of the
nuclear program.
