4. • Cyclops(the Wheel-eyed)
-- each had only one enormous eye, as round
and as big as a wheel, in the middle of the
forehead
-- gigantic, towering up like mighty mountain
crags and devastating in power
• Titans
-- no way inferior to others in size and strength
but they were not purely destructive

5. •Titan Cronus (Saturn)
-- only one bold enough to stand up to his
father
-- was lord of the universe, with his sister-
queen, Rhea(Ops in Latin)
-- learned that one of his children was destined
to overthrow him someday so he swallowed them
as soon as they were born.
• Giants
-- fourth race of monsters who sprang up from
father Heaven’s blood
• Erinyes (Furies)
-- also born from father Heaven’s blood
-- pursue and punish sinners

6. Erinyes were called “Those who walk in
darkness”
They had writhing snakes for hair and eyes that
wept tears of blood. As long as there was isn in
the world they could not be banished.

7. •Zeus ( Jupiter)
-- sixth child of Rhea and Cronus
-- future ruler of heaven and earth
-- rebelled against his father
-- released the hundred-handed monsters from
their prison who in turn fought for him
• Prometheus
-- son of Titan Iapetus and brother of Atlas
-- very wise; took sides with Zeus during the
war with the Titans
-- name means forethought
• Atlas
-- bore the world on his shoulders

8. • Typhon
--last and most frightful offspring of Earth
-- a creature more terrible than any that had
gone before
• Epimetheus
-- name means afterthought
-- brother of Prometheus
-- scatterbrained person who invariably
followed his first impulse and then changed his
mind

9. •Pandora
-- “the gift of all”
-- first woman
-- had misfortunes because of her wicked
nature but in other stories it was her curiosity
that brought her these misfortunes
•Hermes
-- sent by Zeus to do his bidding to talk to
Prometheus asking who will be the mother of his
son who would dethrone him

-- Prometheus’ son
• Pyrrha
-- daughter of Epimetheus and Pandora
