Beauty and the beast trailer
1. Beauty And The Beast (2016 trailer)
The opening of the trailer shows a version of the Disney logo, but with a grey colouring to it
and the castle looks icey and cold. It looks like this due to the dim lighting and the snow
swirling around it. This could connote that it is a darker tail that the original cartoon version
of the film. The non-diegetic asynchronous music has a dramatic start; it’s almost as if it’s a
ding on a symbol.
The camera (on a close up) tilts up at the castle, stating that it is really big and powerful,
maybe it belongs to someone evil. The non-diegetic asynchronous music then speeds up as
we get the first glimpse of the interior of the castle(wide shot, pans), it looks old and dusty,
the only light coming through is from the massive glass windows, almost as if no one has
lived there for years! Huge chandeliers dangle from the ceiling. In the middle of the room is
a piano that looks tiny compared to the room.
2. Next we see a close up of a fancy patterned floor, it’s obvious that someone royal used to
live in this castle. The camera then follows the floors up to show through a grand stair case
displaying the dusty castles frames and candles. The looking from above more candles it is
seen a lounge with fancy curtains and places to sit. The common theme of colour in the
castle is a sort of dried up orange, gold, brown, black, blue, red and green. Family portraits
are shown, and father, mother and child, again this connotes like the colours that the family
that lived here had a lot of money and were possible royals. The non-diegetic asynchronous
music continues to play the light speedy piano notes.
All of a sudden on an extreme close of the child’s face, a scratch is made to run over the face
of the painting. The non-diegetic asynchronous music comes to an abrupt stop, turning dark.
In black out a diegetic asynchronous growl, as if from a beast! The sound of what seems like
a creaking door opening, whilst still in blackout.
“Look, a girl!”
“Yes, I can see it’s a girl, you fool.”
“What if she is the one?”
This is a diegetic asynchronous conversation between two male voices, as the door opens.
Then a shot of the exterior side of the door is shown. Then then it seems as if the non-
diegetic asynchronous music blows out.
“Hello?”
A soft female voice calls out in the silent darkness. Then the piano music starts back up
again, at a slower pace, the camera zooms out on a red rose. A young female’s face soon
comes in behind the rose about to touch it.
3. ‘Be Our Guest’ – in gold letters appears on the screen, as one single red rose petal also falls
down the screen. As the petal reaches the bottom of the screen from behind it is the
numbers ’17.3.17’, clearly the date of release. Followed by, #BeOurGuest and ‘THIS FILM IS
NOT RATED YET’. The reasoning for this is most likely because it is a Disney filmchildren will
want to watch it. However, it is real life and the beast might be too much for little children.
