15. A RELEVANT CLARIFICATION
• A caution against teachings of the orientalists
• Thus there is today a lot of confusion where such people
speak about ‘many types of Islam’ whereas the truth is there
is only one AD-DEEN-AL-ISLAM.
• Differentiate between “AD-DEEN AL-ISLAM” (The religion
Islam) with “FIQH AL-ISLAM” (One’s understanding of Islam)
27. “ LIBERAL ISLAM ”
BEWARE OF THOSE TRYING TO FALSELY
RE-LABEL “AL-ISLAM”
• This is clearly an oxymoron, since once a person professes Islam, he has
made it clear that he submits (or at least strives to submit) to Allah
alone – and no one else, not even himself and his desires!
• Perhaps a better description of one who calls himself a “liberal
Muslim” is one who knows the truth but has not yet acquired the
conviction to follow the laws Islam stipulates. The remedy for him is to
seek fardhu `ayn knowledge under the guidance of a teacher, and not
put himself (and his God-given ability to rationalise) above the
commandments of Allah and His Messenger.
28. “ SECULAR ISLAM ”
BEWARE OF THOSE TRYING TO FALSELY
RE-LABEL “AL-ISLAM”
• This is another clear oxymoron, since the word “secular” itself conveys
a meaning with a marked dual connotation of time and location; the
time referring to the ‘now’ or ‘present’ sense of it, and the location to
the ‘world’ or ‘worldly’ sense of it – therefore denying any possibility of
the unseen realm and the Hereafter, both of which are fundamental in
our belief.
35. ● As Muslims, shouldn’t we be more concerned about the labels
that Allah uses?
● Muslimun (Muslims)
● Mu’minun (Believers)
● Muhsinun (Doers of good)
● Mukhliswun (Sincere in serving Allah)
● Muttaqun (Those with reverential fear of Allah)
● Shuhada’ (Sincere affirmers of Islam)
● Swodiqun (Sincere lovers the Truth)
● Swolihun (Those who are righteous)
● Swobirun (Those who are patient)
● Shakirun (Those who are grateful), etc.
BEWARE OF THOSE TRYING TO FALSELY
RE-LABEL “AL-ISLAM”
We should be striving to
be included into these
groups instead.
