Since blockchain was introduced through Bitcoin, research has been ongoing to extend its applications to non-financial use cases. Healthcare is one industry in which blockchain is expected to have significant impacts. Research in this area is relatively new but growing rapidly; so, health informatics researchers and practitioners are always struggling to keep pace with research progress in this area. This paper reports on a systematic review of the ongoing research in the application of blockchain technology in healthcare.
The research methodology is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines and a systematic mapping study process, in which a well-designed search protocol is used to search four scientific databases, to identify, extract and analyze all relevant publications.
The review shows that a number of studies have proposed different use cases for the application of blockchain in healthcare; however, there is a lack of adequate prototype implementations and studies to characterize the effectiveness of these proposed use cases. The review further highlights the state-of-the-art in the development of blockchain applications for healthcare, their limitations and the areas for future research.
To this end, therefore, there is still the need for more research to better understand, characterize and evaluate the utility of blockchain in healthcare.

this paper uses a blockchain-based approach to manage patient data securely and efficiently. Unlike
Bitcoin, which is primarily used for financial transactions, the protocol described here is designed
specifically for e-health applications. It employs a consensus mechanism that is more suitable for resource
constrained IoT devices, thereby reducing network costs and increasing efficiency. The proposed protocol
also provides a privacy-preserving access control mechanism that enables patients to have more control
over their healthcare data. By leveraging blockchain technology, the protocol ensures that only authorized
individuals can access the patient's data, which helps prevent data breaches and other security issues.
Finally, the security and privacy of the proposed protocol are analysed to ensure that it meets the
necessary standards for data protection. The protocol's effectiveness and efficiency are tested under
different scenarios to ensure that it can perform reliably and consistently. Finally, the protocol proposed in
this paper shows that how blockchain can be used to provide a secure and efficient system that empowers
patients to take control of their healthcare data.
Healthcare information exchange using blockchain technology
This document proposes a blockchain-based healthcare information exchange system using Hyperledger Fabric. The system would allow secure sharing of electronic health records between patients, doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, and research organizations. Medical data is sensitive, so a permissioned blockchain like Hyperledger Fabric is used to control access while maintaining privacy. Abstract

agency over their medical data. In this paper, we propose MedRec: a novel, decentralized record
management system to handle EHRs, using blockchain technology. Our system gives patients a
comprehensive, immutable log and easy access to their medical information across providers and
treatment sites. Leveraging unique blockchain properties, MedRec manages authentication,
confidentiality, accountability and data sharing—crucial considerations when handling sensitive
information. A modular design integrates with providers' existing, local data storage solutions, facilitating
interoperability and making our system convenient and adaptable. We incentivize medical stakeholders
(researchers, public health authorities, etc.) to participate in the network as blockchain “miners”. This
provides them with access to aggregate, anonymized data as mining rewards, in return for sustaining and
securing the network via Proof of Work. MedRec thus enables the emergence of data economics,
supplying big data to empower researchers while engaging patients and providers in the choice to release
metadata. The purpose of this paper is to expose, in preparation for field tests, a working prototype through
which we analyze and discuss our approach and the potential for blockchain in health IT and research.
1. Introduction
EHRs were never designed to manage multi-institutional, life time medical records. Patients leave
data scattered across various organizations as life events take them away from one provider's data silo and
into another. In doing so they lose easy access to past data, as the provider, not the patient, generally
retains primary stewardship (either through explicit legal means in over 21 states, or through default
arrangements in the process of providing care) [.

USING BLOCKCHAIN TO ACHIEVE DECENTRALIZED PRIVACY IN IOT HEALTHCARE
With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), e-health has become one of the main topics of research. Due to the sensitivity of patient information, patient privacy seems challenging. Nowadays, patient data is usually stored in the cloud in healthcare programs, making it difficult for users to have enough control over their data. The recent increment in announced cases of security and surveillance breaches compromising patients' privacy call into question the conventional model, in which third-parties gather and control immense amounts of patients' Healthcare data. In this work, we try to resolve the issues mentioned above by using blockchain technology. We propose a blockchain-based protocol suitable for ehealth applications that does not require trust in a third party and provides an efficient privacy-preserving access control mechanism. Transactions in our proposed system, unlike Bitcoin, are not entirely financial, and we do not use conventional methods for consensus operations in blockchain like Proof of Work (PoW). It is not suitable for IoT applications because IoT devices have resources-constraints. Usage of appropriate consensus method helps us to increase network security and efficiency, as well as reducing network cost, i.e., bandwidth and processor usage. Finally, we provide security and privacy analysis of our proposed protocol.

Since blockchain was introduced through Bitcoin, research has been ongoing to extend its applications to non-financial use cases. Healthcare is one industry in which blockchain is expected to have significant impacts. Research in this area is relatively new but growing rapidly; so, health informatics researchers and practitioners are always struggling to keep pace with research progress in this area. This paper reports on a systematic review of the ongoing research in the application of blockchain technology in healthcare.
The research methodology is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines and a systematic mapping study process, in which a well-designed search protocol is used to search four scientific databases, to identify, extract and analyze all relevant publications.
The review shows that a number of studies have proposed different use cases for the application of blockchain in healthcare; however, there is a lack of adequate prototype implementations and studies to characterize the effectiveness of these proposed use cases. The review further highlights the state-of-the-art in the development of blockchain applications for healthcare, their limitations and the areas for future research.
To this end, therefore, there is still the need for more research to better understand, characterize and evaluate the utility of blockchain in healthcare.

also provides a privacy-preserving access control mechanism that enables patients to have more control
over their healthcare data. By leveraging blockchain technology, the protocol ensures that only authorized
individuals can access the patient's data, which helps prevent data breaches and other security issues.
Finally, the security and privacy of the proposed protocol are analysed to ensure that it meets the
necessary standards for data protection. The protocol's effectiveness and efficiency are tested under
different scenarios to ensure that it can perform reliably and consistently. Finally, the protocol proposed in
this paper shows that how blockchain can be used to provide a secure and efficient system that empowers
patients to take control of their healthcare data.

Abstract
A long-standing focus on compliance has traditionally constrained development of fundamental design
changes for Electronic Health Records (EHRs). We now face a critical need for such innovation, as
personalization and data science prompt patients to engage in the details of their healthcare and restore
agency over their medical data. In this paper, we propose MedRec: a novel, decentralized record
management system to handle EHRs, using blockchain technology. Our system gives patients a
comprehensive, immutable log and easy access to their medical information across providers and
treatment sites. Leveraging unique blockchain properties, MedRec manages authentication,
confidentiality, accountability and data sharing—crucial considerations when handling sensitive
information. A modular design integrates with providers' existing, local data storage solutions, facilitating
interoperability and making our system convenient and adaptable. We incentivize medical stakeholders
(researchers, public health authorities, etc.) to participate in the network as blockchain “miners”. This
provides them with access to aggregate, anonymized data as mining rewards, in return for sustaining and
securing the network via Proof of Work. MedRec thus enables the emergence of data economics,
supplying big data to empower researchers while engaging patients and providers in the choice to release
metadata. The purpose of this paper is to expose, in preparation for field tests, a working prototype through
which we analyze and discuss our approach and the potential for blockchain in health IT and research.
1. Introduction
EHRs were never designed to manage multi-institutional, life time medical records. Patients leave
data scattered across various organizations as life events take them away from one provider's data silo and
into another. In doing so they lose easy access to past data, as the provider, not the patient, generally
retains primary stewardship (either through explicit legal means in over 21 states, or through default
arrangements in the process of providing care) [.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), e-health has become one of the main topics of research. Due to the sensitivity of patient information, patient privacy seems challenging. Nowadays, patient data is usually stored in the cloud in healthcare programs, making it difficult for users to have enough control over their data. The recent increment in announced cases of security and surveillance breaches compromising patients' privacy call into question the conventional model, in which third-parties gather and control immense amounts of patients' Healthcare data. In this work, we try to resolve the issues mentioned above by using blockchain technology. We propose a blockchain-based protocol suitable for ehealth applications that does not require trust in a third party and provides an efficient privacy-preserving access control mechanism. Transactions in our proposed system, unlike Bitcoin, are not entirely financial, and we do not use conventional methods for consensus operations in blockchain like Proof of Work (PoW). It is not suitable for IoT applications because IoT devices have resources-constraints. Usage of appropriate consensus method helps us to increase network security and efficiency, as well as reducing network cost, i.e., bandwidth and processor usage. Finally, we provide security and privacy analysis of our proposed protocol.

BIO: Sostenitrice del software libero e dei formati standard e aperti. È stata un membro attivo dei progetti Fedora e openSUSE e ha co-fondato l'Associazione LibreItalia dove è stata coinvolta in diversi eventi, migrazioni e formazione relativi a LibreOffice. In precedenza ha lavorato a migrazioni e corsi di formazione su LibreOffice per diverse amministrazioni pubbliche e privati. Da gennaio 2020 lavora in SUSE come Software Release Engineer per Uyuni e SUSE Manager e quando non segue la sua passione per i computer e per Geeko coltiva la sua curiosità per l'astronomia (da cui deriva il suo nickname deneb_alpha).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
