Activists of Hindu fundamentalist groups – the Shiv Sena, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal, staged a demonstration in front of the McDonald‘s head office in Delhi protesting the alleged use of beef flavouring. They submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, demanding the closure of all McDonald‘s outlets in the country. Activists also staged protests in front of McDonald‘s restaurants in south Mumbai and Thane. Mobs ransacked the outlet at Thane, broke the glass panes and smeared the McDonald‘s mascot Ronald with cow dung. About 30 people were arrested and later let off on bail. Company officials estimated the loss to the outlet at Rs 2 million. Beauty, Effort, and Misrepresentation: How Beauty Work Affects Judgments of Moral Character and Consumer Preferences ADRIANA SAMPER LINYUN W. YANG MICHELLE E. DANIELS Women engage in a variety of beauty practices, or “beauty work,” to enhance their physical appearance, such as applying cosmetics, tanning, or exercising. Although the rewards of physical attractiveness are well documented, perceptions of both the women who engage in efforts to enhance their appearance and the high-effort beauty products marketed to them are not well understood. Across seven studies, we demonstrate that consumers judge women who engage in certain types of extensive beauty work as possessing poorer moral character. These judgments occur only for effortful beauty work perceived as transformative (significantly altering appearance) and transient (lasting a relatively short time), such that they emerge within cosmetics and tanning, yet not skincare or exercise. This effect is mediated by the perception that putting high effort into one’s appearance signals a willingness to misrepresent one’s true self, and translates into lower purchase intentions for higher-effort cosmetics. We identify several boundary conditions, including the attractiveness of the woman performing the beauty work and whether the effort is at- tributed to external norms or causes. In examining how beauty work elicits moral judgments, we also shed light on why effortful cosmetic use is viewed negatively, yet effortful products continue to be commercially successful. These practices are often effortful, such as popular multistep Korean skincare regimens (Chang 2011) or trends in con- touring and strobing, where layers of make-up are carefully applied to highlight facial features (Cardellino 2015). Even mundane routines such as styling hair or applying cosmetics often require significant time and care. In a survey in 2018, forty-two percent of millennials said their current employer provide learning, development, and training opportunities (Witkin, 2018). Baylee, In Robert Frost's poem, "Acquainted with the Night" he uses symbolism to compare darkness with depression. "I have been one acquainted with the night," (711) is the first line. It sets the tone of the story, along with the setting. He uses darkness as a symbolism for depression and sadness. "I have outwalked the furthest city light," (711) symbolizes him outwalking the last bit of light in his life. He is walking into the darkness of depression and walking out of the last bit of light that's left. There is no light left in his life, at least the aspect of a community type scene. He often uses the word aquatinted. This can also be interpreted as symbolism because the definition of an acquaintance is someone who you are briefly and merely accustomed to, who we wouldn't quite call a friend. The darkness is his acquaintance, he is not friendly and open to this darkness because the darkness is his depressive state. "Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right, I have been one acquainted with the night," (711) is a powerful line. It ties all the symbolism together. Frost is telling us that the timing is never right for depression. It comes at its own pace and at it's own time. Symbolism is a powerful element in literature and makes the reader think deeper about the true meaning of the poem. Robert Frost uses the darkness as a symbol for depression in his poem, "Acquainted with the Night". .

Baylee, In Katherine Mansfield's story "Miss Brill", the author uses the theme of loneliness to exemplify the pain loneliness comes with. She uses a public scenery in the park to lead the protagonist, Miss Brim, to realize what her loneliness has caused her to do. She felt embarrassed for going to the park everyday to watch the other people. The tone comes across as very sad and lonely, and it gives us an inside look on the life of a lonely elderly old woman. The story in itself is sad. Nothing about an old woman who is so lonely watching other people for entertainment is happy whatsoever. However, Brim uses the characterization and description of events to show us the pain and despair of how having seemingly no-one can affect a person. The line, "What has been happening to me? said her little sad eyes," (259) shows us that you can even see the effects of her loneliness even physically. She has noticed what she has been doing and it lead her to see herself in a different way, as well as the people around her. Courtney, In Raymond Carver's short story "Popular Mechanics", he introduces a sense of separation between a mother and her spouse which reflects in the authors use of tone in this story. The tone in the beginning starts off a little bit on edge as she goes through frustration, which is later developed to an disagreement. The situation becomes more hostile towards the middle of the story. The narrator mentioned " Son of a bitch! I'm so glad you're leaving! She began to cry. You can't even look me in the face, can you" (277)? This moment basically describes a moment of sadness for this women as she goes through a moment of separation from her significant other. In her sense, this could also be a use of diction because she tells him to leave but cries afterwards as if she doesn't really mean for him to leave, she is just upset. The tone the narrator uses in this story is major hostile disagreements between our characters. Later the narrator developed a statement, "I want the baby, he said. Are you crazy? No, but I want the baby. I'll get someone to come by for his things" (277). This statement proves that our characters continues to disagree with each other as they begin to debate on who will get custody for their child. As they debate and tried to resolve a solution, this will later be in effect of the resolution of the story. .

Th e play has been preserved both as one of the Th irty Yuan Plays (translated here) and as a late sixteenth-century manu- script that derives from the Ming palace repertoire. A translation of the fourth act of the Ming palace version is included here to allow a more detailed comparison of the two versions. Th e play details how Liu Bei persuades Zhuge Liang to join his cause in the role of primary adviser and how Zhuge Liang then handles relations with Liu Bei’s sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. In the various renditions of stories of the Th ree Kingdoms, at this point in the stories’ development the relationship of the three sworn brothers with Cao Cao, with whom they had collaborated in the past while fi ghting Dong Zhuo and others, has defi nitely soured. Leaving Northern China, the three brothers move south into Hubei, where Liu Bei holds the offi ce of Prefect of Xinye. Looking for a means to strengthen his power, Liu Bei, who earlier had made Xu Shu his Field Marshal, tries to attract Zhuge Liang to his cause on the basis of Xu Shu’s high recommendation. Before the play begins, Liu Bei and his brothers have already twice visited Recumbent Dragon Ridge to meet with Zhuge Liang, but in both cases Zhuge Liang has refused to see them. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
