Bar Graph Webquest
Standards: M.S.1.5 Data Analysis and Probability
Through communication, representation, reasoning and proof, problem solving, and making connections
within and beyond the field of mathematics, students will
•formulate questions that can be addressed with data and collect, organize, and display relevant data to
answer them,
•select and use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data,
•develop and evaluate inferences and predictions that are based on models, and
•apply and demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of probability.
Introduction:
TOP SECRET NEWS! Mrs. Doodle can’t seem to find her desk! There are graded papers EVERYWHERE but
she has no way to organize them so that she can find her desk! This is where YOU come in! We need
your help to organize her grades so that she can see her desk again. If not, Mrs. Doodle may never see
her desk again!
Task:
To help Mrs. Doodle you will need to separate all of her papers into groups with the same students’
name. Then once you have them separated into different groups of students’ names, you will need to
figure out how to organize the assignments by some sort of chart, this will make it easier for Mrs.
Doodle to put it into her gradebook. Once that is finished all that’s left is to hand out the papers back to
the students. Mrs. Doodle can handle that part. So get to it detectives!
Process:
1. Go to this link to sort out Mrs. Doodles Desk!
Mrs. Doodles' Desk
2. After sorting papers into different groups, go to these websites and choose which type of graph
to use.
Bar Graph
Line Graph
Pie Graph
Pictograph
3. Now, all that is left to do is make the chart! Once you decide which one to use, just go to this
website and make your chart!
Graph Maker
Evaluation: To get a good grade on this assignment, here is a look on how I’m going to grade you!
20 points- You show how you sorted out Mrs. Doodles’ papers, tell me how why you chose which graph
you chose, and you create a graph that shows all correct data, Title, and legend/key if needed.
15 points- You show how you sorted most of the papers, you briefly tell me why you chose the graph you
chose, and you create a graph that shows mostly correct data, title, and legend.
10 points- You don’t show very well how you sorted the papers, barely tell me how you chose the graph,
and you miss a lot of the parts of the graph.
0 points- you don’t show how you sorted the papers, don’t tell me how you chose your graph, and your
data, and parts of the graph are incorrect.
Conclusion:
You did it!! Congratulations, detectives! You helped Mrs. Doodles’ find her desk. Now she can properly
see her desk and use it now. You saved the day. Don’t forget to give Mrs. Doodles the finished project of
her chart so she can record her grades. Thank for the hard work! See you again next time, detectives!
