Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to climate change due to its location in a delta region with much of the country less than 5 meters above sea level. Climate change is exacerbating existing threats such as sea level rise, cyclones, flooding from monsoon rains and melting glaciers, and drought in northern areas. For communities dependent on agriculture and fishing, climate change is expected to lead to lost harvests and possessions from increased flooding, debt from needing to repeatedly replant crops or purchase medicine and seeds, and impoverishment over time as extreme weather events become more severe and frequent.
