From the author of the National Book Award-winning short story collection Redeployment comes an astonishing novel of Conradian suspense, set in Colombia among other fronts of America's wars, as four lives become fatally entangled thanks to our country's gift for projecting its power into situations it half understands.Neither Mason, a U.S. Army Special Forces medic, nor Lisette, a foreign correspondent, has emerged from America's long post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan unscathed. Yet war also exerts a terrible draw that neither can shake--the noble calling, the camaraderie, the life-and-death stakes. Where else in the world can such a person go? All roads lead to Colombia, where the US, with its patented fusion of intelligence dominance and quick-striking special operators, has partnered with local government to stamp out a vicious civil war and keep the predatory narco gangs at bay. Mason, now a liaison to the Colombian military, is ready for the good war, and Lisette is more .
10 Leadership Lessons From Clint Eastwood’s Cowboy MoviesAndrew Wood
With the exception of John Wayne, who many younger people may not have seen, no one did ‘cowboy’ like Clint Eastwood.
His iconic portrayal of the Man with No Name in a string of low budget westerns, later called “Spaghetti westerns” launched him to superstardom and created one of the most endearing franchises in movie history. Later in such classics as The Outlaw Jose Wales, Pale Rider and the Unforgiven he continued to entertain us while delivering some classic lessons in leadership.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.

As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Banal
1. Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.
—Henry Ford

2. Banal
• Those generous, meaningful interpretations are seriously undermined,
though, by the totally banal exchanges.
• The decisive action breaks the everyday stylization; it is an incredible
event within the banal reality which must by and large be taken on
faith.
• It was a life I found too banal.
• That smug role offers no surprise, though, even during a TV interview,
and Tannahill’s dialogue wears you down with its predictable positions
and banal swearing.
3. Banality
• To his credit, his most memorable phrases involved the dropping
of names, supplying evidence that he is so well connected that
all television producers should be delighted to slather his
banality across their airwaves.
• It was as if all Italian whites were the mass-market pinot grigios
of today, which do an excellent job of carrying on the tradition of
banality.
• Simon fought against cliché and banality over and over again in
his music.
• The blood, the dirty hits, the overdoses, the casual violence and
the banality.
4. Belie
• “I kept myself from getting down early, which was huge,” he said in that
low-key manner that belied his satisfaction in the accomplishment.
• The meeting seemed to be over with a remarkable quickness that
belied the buildup and preparation.
• Now 76, he still speaks in the lyrical, thoughtful cadence of his
upbringing, which belies the mounting anger that prompted him to
become increasingly involved in the 1960s civil rights movement.
• The cartoon label belies the maturity of the spirit.
5. Belligerent
• In a country without an abundance of national heroes due to its
belligerent past, Germany’s police bomb disposal officers seemed
universally admired for their bravery.
• Those policies, more than Iran’s adherence to the terms of the nuclear
deal, were what drove the Trump administration to criticize Iran’s
belligerent behavior and withdraw from the agreement.
• The bombastic, belligerent, inexperienced and unpredictable leader of
a nuclear-armed nation, a man who flouts international norms and
agreements, is scheduled to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong
Un in Singapore on Tuesday .
• Soon after, both sides became more belligerent toward one another
and the president briefly scrapped plans for the summit.
6. Betray
• In the same breath, though, he betrayed a trace of doubt.
• His answers, Chief Justice Roberts suggested, betrayed no consistent
theme.
• But until the final vote tally was announced, the candidate betrayed no
sense, beyond his inner circle of confidants, that he might lose.
• GOP lawmakers from Hispanic-heavy districts are the biggest targets,
with activists saying they betrayed immigrants.
7. Blatant
• Trump’s allies complained that the department, and Comey in
particular, failed to pursue what they perceived to be blatant
law breaking by Clinton.
• The organization calls on the international community to
“impose real costs for such blatant disregard for Palestinian
lives.”
• The blatant sexism in her own party took her by surprise.
• Yet there is a dark side to this fandom, exemplified in recent
displays of extreme possessiveness: blatant sexist and racist
remarks from fans that coalesce with conservative grievance
culture.
8. Bolster
• Theoharis said the purpose is to build “a season of organizing”
to create a long-term movement aimed at restoring the Voting
Rights Act, ending gerrymandering, and helping bolster the
minimum wage.
• The aim of the rule, applied to banks with assets of $250 billion
or more, is to help bolster the stability of the financial system.
• Avocado, crumbled queso fresco and an herby dressing
bolstered with mayo and more peas, puréed until creamy, lend a
little richness.
• A limited war to bolster support for the decadent leadership of
a declining empire.
9. Brazen
• Mr. Ruger, meanwhile, directed his fundraisers to tell alumni that
his treatment of Ms. Wax was “fairly common”—a brazen
falsehood.
• We waltzed in with brazen confidence, and it paid off because
we were immediately handed glasses of Champagne.
• The newspapers went wild for the Bobbed Haired Bandit, and
they mourned when Celia Cooney’s string of brazen thefts put
her in jail.
• They are far less empathetic than most of the women — who
despite the hands they are dealt are self-determined, brazen
and able to carve a space for themselves in less than optimal
contexts.
10. Bucolic
• The bucolic landscape turned sinister in its unpeopledness, its
dearth of sentient witnesses and protection.
• He called his crew Camp Justify, and the bucolic corner barn
setting fit the bill.
• For the first hour, the Wav party stream consisted of a camp fire
smoldering in the bucolic Wyoming prairie, flanked by a
towering set of speakers and a half-dozen grazing horses.
• Housed in woodsy cabins, they’ve enjoyed the “radical
hospitality” of this bucolic women’s literary retreat center on
Whidbey Island, and the quiet and space to develop and craft
new scripts.
11. Bumbling
• Whatever the author’s motivation, his depiction of a spy agency
run by bumbling, amoral fools isn’t going to be good for the
brand.
• But even more impressive, he serves as a touching catalyst for
Tony Shalhoub’s Tewfiq, Haled’s sternly disapproving yet
sympathetic leader, who begins to see in this affectionately
bumbling young man vestiges of his late son.
• Weinberg said Abscam was a bumbling investigation that nearly
went off the rails.
• Mr. Weinberg recalled that the Abscam investigation, though
ultimately effective, was bumbling and nearly went off the rails.
12. Burgeon
• The animals roam wild but cows still need to be periodically rounded
up for TB tests and for slaughter – not easy when they are hiding in
Knepp’s burgeoning sallow thickets.
• Nonetheless, it helped to inspire a burgeoning debate about the costs
of widening inequality.
• Anti-fascist groups in Oregon monitored and exposed his activities,
including burgeoning connections with other far-right figures and
alleged organizing on behalf of the neo-Nazi group American Front.
• While dismissing Mr. Hill as a “perennial failed candidate,” Ms.
Comstock also emphasized her work on more local issues like human
trafficking, the opioid epidemic, and the region’s burgeoning
technology and health care sectors.
