Introduction…
The Monitoring Solutions team help protect Sky’s customer facing services and office IT systems; building and
deploying tools that provide automated pro-active notifications when degraded performance or outages are
detected.
This is done using a combination of 3rd party monitoring tools and in-house built solutions, including custom
dashboards.
Monitoring Solutions serve stakeholders all over the business and look to ensure 4 key monitoring principles (the
Four Pillars of Monitoring) are upheld:-
• Customer Experience Monitoring
• Service Monitoring
• Component Monitoring
• Infrastructure Monitoring

Sky are currently undertaking a significant programme of work that will completely transform its
customer offering.
The Monitoring Solutions team will be responsible for the implementation of the monitoring of the new
product across Sky’s technology estate.
• The first significant product delivery milestone (trial launch) is 2 months away.
• All monitoring does not need to be in place at this point, the plan is to develop monitoring capability
during the trial phase between the then and the main launch.
• The main product launch (to the customer) is currently scheduled for December 2022.
• Programme budgets have already been submitted and agreed.
• So far Monitoring Solutions hasn’t been engaged by the programme.
• The programme has multiple stakeholders from a broad range of business areas, Monitoring Solutions isn’t
currently aware of who all of these are.
• Some areas of the business have already began to develop their own monitoring capability (this may not
adhere to monitoring best practice). Others aren’t sure what monitoring they require.
• Monitoring Solutions suspect that there may be a need for additional budget to cover the cost of
acquiring/scaling up 3rd party tools to enable monitoring of this new proposition.
