Bacterial cells are plated on different media to determine if they were successfully transformed with new DNA and to control expression of green fluorescent protein. Cells without new DNA will not grow on media containing ampicillin, while successfully transformed cells containing the new DNA on the LB/AMP plate and LB/AMP/ARA plate will express and glow green.
