1. Babi Yar
Explanation:
A Babi Yar is a ravine, a ravine is a very narrow and deep sided crevice in the
earth’s crust. As Germans began to occupy most of the European continent, they also took
over Kiev which is the capital of the Soviet Ukraine. At the time there were about 175,000
Jews living in Kiev, but that would all change. It was mid- September when the Nazi forces
came and took the city of Kiev. As the Nazi force took over, the Jews that were mostly in
ghettos were the first ones to be taken into the Babi Yar., There were 34,000 Jewish people.
To be specific, the Babi Yar was located northwest of the city in a Jewish cemetery. This is
where the Nazi’s would proceed with the execution of this inferior race. Nazi’s would take a
small group of people at a time including women, children, and even the disabled and they
would all line them up and would shoot them all in unison with a machine guns.
As the execution carried on , the Germans did not even bother to remove the dead bodies
that laid there on earth’s crust, instead they would take a shovel and take the dirt from the
earth and barely cover the bodies. The Nazi’s continued with the execution, lining up the
next group of people that were forcibly waiting to die. It was a two day massacre that
would last months ahead. With Bodies laid on top of each other and with the Babi Yar
overlapping with dead bodies , over half of the
remaining population was exterminated.

Reflection :
As I look at this picture and really observing it I couldn’t help but notice all the naked
people laying dead in the babi yar. People were to be stripped of their clothing and to wait in line
for the execution. All of them were forced to watch their people get shot in the head and drop
into the deep ravine that the Nazi’s had dug to put all the dead corpses in. I choose this picture
3. because I just felt very devasted on how they treated these people even up till their death.
When I looked at the picture I also noticed a man with a large gun checking and making sure
that there wasn’t any survivors left after the shootings. I felt that the Germans were very selfish
and disgusting for the behavior they fulfilled and following a man who was not even a German
himself. For words out of Hilters mouth to just satisfy these men to take the lives of innocent
men, women, and even little children was not right. You would think some of them would have a
mind of their own and show some integrity , but most of them had fear in what would happen to
them if they ever did show any bit of integrity. To know that one person who can influence a
whole nation of people to commit genocide, and to know what these nation of people are
capable of doing all together is a scary thing. This picture just shows me that some people can
get easily influenced and soon regret the outcome that they have caused.
