2. History of Barangay Babasit
There was no official record on the meaning of Babasit, but a legend
explains how the name BABASIT came about. It is contained in unwritten records
of the Barangay that this was once a forested section of the present town
---Manaoag. It was also an accepted chronicle among the old folks as it has
been handed to them by a way of oral stories than it is primitive situation, there
happened a couple, a husband and a wife who settled in the center of the town,
that they were strangers although said place was still unsettled. It came to the
knowledge of other people to regard the place as weird in view of the two settlers
origin was unknown, that they spoke a dialect which was strange to them but we
now regard as the ILOCANO dialect, and this was also borned by the newcomers
who came later also could not understand the dialect. So it came about that
whenever the couple came in contact with other natives were regarded as
stranger as they were small/short in stature, which was very rare and they
couldn’t understand each other much and desperately due to the language
barrier and the only words they could utter to identify themselves was
BASBASSIT KAMI in difference of the native settlers and populace who were
larger and taller in stature. So the native settlers and other populace from time to
time referred to the couple as BASBASSIT, which means the place were small
and the small couple are found.
As civilization enveloped the place, the people came to understand that
the word BASBASSIT was an Ilocano dialect, meaning “short and small” which
truly benefited the two settlers. Presently, the word BASBASSIT was the name of
the Barangay and had became progressive part of the municipality of Manaoag.
The word BABASIT, its original name had been adopted and has came to stay
and from part of the historical data of the municipality of Manaoag.

3. Physical Feature
Barangay Babasit has a total land area of 419.05 hectares, which is
predominantly occupied by agricultural lands utilized in various crops like rice,
corn, coconut, mango and other non-commercial crops.
The Barangay is bounded to the North by the Barangay of San Juan, San
Jacinto, Pangasinan; to the east by the Barangay of Pugaro, Manaoag,
Pangasinan and Poblacion Manaoag Pangasinan, to the south by the Angalakan
river, and to the west by the Barangay of Bisal, Manaoag, Pangasinan and
Barangay Sta. Maria, San Jacinto, Pangasinan.
The Barangay is strageticall located with its landmark Rosario arch at the
Barangay/municipal and catholic cemeteries located at Zone 2 along the
provincial road of Barangay Babasit and boundary marker between Barangay
Babasit and Barangay Poblacion, Manaoag, Pangasinan.
Babasi has a total population of 6,162 inhabitants with 1,030 households
according to the October 2012 census. The Barangay was divided into seven
zones where Babasit Pugaro is Zone 1 and Zone 2 start between the boundary
of Babasit and Poblacion then Zone 7 ends at the boundary between Babasit and
Barangay Sta. Maria of San Jacinto.

4. Development of Barangay Babasit
Through the combined efforts of the past Barangay officials and the
present Barangay officials headed by the Punong Barangay Salvador S.
Javilona, BABASIT is one of the progressive barangays in the Municipality of
Manaoag. It has an elementary school, composed of 15 classroom teachers and
a principal as a school head.
One of the significant accomplishments of the Barangay officials was its
elevation to become one of the biggest Barangay in the municipality. This
opened a gateway to increase its financial resources through the IRA(Internal
Revenue Allocation) from the national government and local revenues.
The fast urbanization as well was attributed to the development of
business establishment, commercial activities and to add the factors that farming,
makers of rattan products are the main occupation of the people in Babasit.
Another important factor is the accomplishment of projects, to name few are the
cementing of farm to market road along canal located at the boundary between
Babasit and Barangay Usnit of San Jacinto wherein farmers of the said area
benefited the said road by easily hauled their products to the market without
difficulty for transport.
Additional streetlights, restoration of drainage canals, and some areas of
the elementary school.
For the peace preservation and security, there is 1 Chief Tanod and 20
tanods and 14 of the tanods including the chief have radios found at the patrol
car or cab. For the means of transportation, there are passenger jeepneys,
buses, cars and tricycles.
DECORP(Dagupan Electric Corp,.) became the barangay’s source for
electricity and NAWASA for the water resources.
