March 24 every year is observed
as World Tuberculosis Day all
over the world. Tuberculosis
(TB) is known as Raja Yakshama
in Ayurveda also known as
Kshaya, Rograja. It is coined as
Sosha or Kshaya as it lowers the
immunity which leads to severe
weakness (kshaya) or wasting and
number of medical ill effects.
Ayurveda believes that imbalance
of Tridosha (Vata, Pitta & Kapha)
is the reason of lowering of im-
munity. The Moon God, the king
of brahmins, was the first to fall
victim to this disease so the term
Kings Disease.
Recently our Indian President
Pranab Mukherjee mentioned in
the 58th session of All India
Ayurvedic Congress that Ayurve-
da is known to have cured tuber-
culosis.
Tuberculosis (TB) is second only
to HIV/AIDS as the greatest killer
worldwide due to a single infec-
tious agent. Tuberculosis is a
common infectious disease in
developing countries. Mycobacte-
rium tuberculae is a causative
organism which commonly at-
tacks the lungs and manifests
pulmonary tuberculosis. But, it
may affect other parts of the
body and this is known as ‘extra
pulmonary tuberculosis’.

Benefits of Pranayama
Pranayama is traditionally
viewed as a practice involving a
lot more than just breathing
for relaxation. The sage Patan-
jali, in Yoga Sutras, defines
Pranayama as ―regulation of
incoming and outgoing breath
coupled with retention. In
Sanskrit, the word Pranayama
is composed of two parts, viz.
Prana and Ayama. The latter
means control; it describes the
action of Pranayama. Prana – is
vital energy or the life force.
There are 7 techniques of
Prnayama practiced of which
Anulom-Vilom, Bhastika and
Kapalbhati are most beneficial.
