OpenAsset has enabled Foster + Partners to create a world class architectural image library. All staff can access images at the click of a mouse, no matter where in the world they travel.
OpenAsset is a software that connects project data from Deltek Vision with images, allowing clients and users to access project photos and data. It integrates with Adobe InDesign and PowerPoint to insert tagged project images. OpenAsset also syncs image albums to iPad devices for mobile access to project visuals.
Combining structured project data from Deltek Vision with photography and graphics from a DAM (digital asset management) system speeds marketing workflows. Without a DAM, project photography and marketing graphics often reside in a file folder system on shared network drives. With a DAM, marketers can tag graphics with keywords and make them easily searchable and accessible firm-wide. By linking a DAM with project information in Deltek Vision, marketing graphics are always tagged with the most up to date and accurate project codes and details. Attend this session if you're an AEC marketer looking to improve graphics and photo management, and leverage project data from Vision to produce brochure-quality documents fast.
Find out how international EPCM firm SSOE integrate OpenAsset Media with Deltek Vision and a Sharepoint intranet site - and create branded InDesign templates.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.

Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

ChatGPT and the Future of Work - Clark Boyd Clark Boyd
Everyone is in agreement that ChatGPT (and other generative AI tools) will shape the future of work. Yet there is little consensus on exactly how, when, and to what extent this technology will change our world.
Businesses that extract maximum value from ChatGPT will use it as a collaborative tool for everything from brainstorming to technical maintenance.
For individuals, now is the time to pinpoint the skills the future professional will need to thrive in the AI age.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

1. OpenAsset has enabled Foster + Partners to create a world class, easy to use architectural image
library. Image resources used in projects and for reference are now available to all staff at the click
of a mouse, no matter where in world they travel. This case study presents how Axomic worked with
Foster + Partners to create this key business tool, and how the practice is saving time and putting its
digital images to work.
About Foster + Partners
Foster + Partners, one of the most innovative architectural practices in the world today, is based
in London with project offices in 22 countries. The practice is more than 1000 strong, with a highly
talented team drawn from more than 50 nations.

2. After a number of years, when image databases
more targeted at architects started appearing on
the market, the practice decided to re-evaluate
options. When evaluating these new systems,
the key criteria for Foster + Partners was finding
a solution which was easy to use, and fitted well
into the architectural workflow. Additionally, the
system had to be made available to everyone in a
practice that was rapidly growing, both in the UK
and worldwide.
OpenAsset from Axomic had been closely
developed with a group of leading UK architects
a few years earlier, and was being adopted by a
growing number of practices.
The communications team created a well thought-
out image library matrix to define requirements.
After 3 months the practice placed an order for
OpenAsset and the project began.
Faster, better searches
OpenAsset allows Foster + Partners to find and
use images quickly. OpenAsset has freed up time
for the communications team, as users rarely
need to ask questions once they’re familiar with
the system.
InDesign integration
OpenAsset has greatly improved the process
of using images in Adobe InDesign. Using the
AssetBar drag-and-drop tool, images can be
instantly placed into an InDesign layout. Users
are given access to only the image sizes they
require, with helpful image descriptions to guide
appropriate usage.
PowerPoint creation
One of the most powerful tools in OpenAsset is the
ability to easily create PowerPoint presentations.
The selected images are automatically resized for
on-screen viewing and embedded into a branded
PowerPoint template. (The original high-resolution
images are always retained safely within the
OpenAsset.)

Successful Implementation
With a system in place, the immediate challenge
was how to export files from the existing database.
Prior to the data migration, some cleansing of
the keywords and data was required – but just
three months after installation of OpenAsset, over
250,000 images were successfully moved into the
new system. “The data migration was done really
well, and Axomic were great to work with,” says
Foster + Partners’ Tony Price.
Before the task of uploading and keywording,
members of the communications team had
How OpenAsset helps Foster + Partners
make the most of their digital images
Foster + Partners had been seriously grappling with digital asset management (DAM) for almost a decade
before being introduced to OpenAsset. The practice had previously invested in a solution when only a handful of
(largely media-industry focused) image libraries were available. While this system was not rolled out to a wide
user base, it enabled the practice to structure its data and organise its thoughts around DAM systems, helping
to facilitate the eventual transition to OpenAsset.

3. Synergy with existing information
One of the most powerful tools in OpenAsset is the ability to automatically assign keywords to
images by tagging them with project keywords such as ‘sector’, ‘location’, ‘type of building’ and so
on. Foster + Partners use a well established facts-and-figures database and were keen to integrate
OpenAsset with this system to ensure work was not duplicated. Axomic’s technical team provided
Foster + Partners with an API (application programming interface) to link the two systems together.
Foster + Partners’ Kathryn Tollervey comments: “The process of data migration and tagging the
images with keywords was really smooth. There are some great tools in OpenAsset which allow
administrators to upload and tag images really efficiently.”
Integration with the intranet
OpenAsset was seamlessly linked into the Foster + Partners intranet to provide users with easy
access to the library. Once OpenAsset had been rolled out, the front page of the intranet was used
to announce the launch of the image library with great success. The total number of staff who have
used the system is now well over 1,000. Their response has been very positive – they report that
OpenAsset is simple and intuitive to use.
Regular users of OpenAsset at Foster + Partners
The chart below demonstrates how successful the project has been. Within four months of rollout,
around 1,000 users were accessing the OpenAsset image library each week.
Improved workflow with contact
sheets and shared albums
At the click of a button, the communications team
can print out contact sheets of images for review.
These pages can be customised into different
layouts and contain relevant information from the
database.
OpenAsset also features tools to support workflow
and collaboration. Users can create and share
‘albums’ of images without duplicating the
original image files.
Flexible access options
OpenAsset permissions are used by Foster +
Partners to ensure users are given access to
relevant content and the quality of the image
library is maintained.
OpenAsset gives the Foster + Partners
communications team total control over
uploading and access privileges – which are set
using a simple ‘traffic light’ system.
“The communications
team share albums
all the time. It’s a key
part of our workflow.”

4. Excellent technical support
Axomic’s proven track record of implementing
image library projects at large architectural
practices was one of the key reasons Foster +
Partners chose OpenAsset. As Kathryn Tollervey
says: “The response time on support issues is
always really good, which is not what you expect
from a lot of software companies.”
Foster + Partners have become key members of
the OpenAsset user group. Annual meetings are
held to discuss new features, and contributions
are welcomed from all OpenAsset clients. “We’ve
been really pleased with Axomic. We chose
OpenAsset because we wanted a higher level of
customer service and we haven’t been let down,”
says Foster + Partners’ Katy Harris.
Ongoing enhancements
Axomic are currently working with Foster +
Partners on a number of features that will add
value for all OpenAsset users. “We’ve no regrets
that we chose OpenAsset. I think the product is
absolutely the right fit for a practice of our size and
complexity, and Axomic have been great to work
with,” says Katy Harris. With further upgrades
in the pipeline and an ongoing commitment to
develop OpenAsset for the architectural market,
Axomic is confident the product will go from
strength to strength. As Daniel Emmerson of
Axomic says: “By partnering with great clients
like Foster + Partners, we feel we’ve been able
to build the best image library in the world for
architects. We intend to build on this success by
growing our client base around the globe, and
look forward to doing so.”
Simple licensing at
the right price
One key reason for Foster +
Partners’ choice of OpenAsset
was Axomic’s simple licensing
model and realistic pricing.
All costs are transparent,
guaranteeing that the image
library can be made available to
everyone in the practice.
“It’s interesting to hear
other people’s ideas
at the user group. The
product moves forward
by collective feedback
and we feel our voice has
been heard.”
