Awesense was also active on Twitter, posting over 200 tweets that received over 200,000 impressions and engaged over 92 unique Twitter users. Additionally, Awesense was awarded the 2013 Municipal Smart Grid Summit Vendor to Watch award for its innovative smart grid solution.

Awesense wins the Municipal Smart Grid Summit "Vendor to Watch" award
for 2013
But add to those serious threats the "silent crime" of
power theft, an annual multi-billion write-off to the
utilities, and the challenges become that much more acute
and symptomatic of an industry not adapting to changing
times.
One Vancouver startup Awesense, founded by its CEO
Mischa Steiner-Jovic in 2009, has built and now rolled
out an end-to-end solution to identify power theft and
loss.

Brazilian utilities are improving their smart meter technology and working
to install these devices on the outside of homes or on top of electricity
poles, as opposed to inside residents' homes. Last year, a Bloomberg
article covering this topic stated, "The meters can detect unusually heavy
demand, which may signal an illegal hookup. They can also be used to
shut off service to households and businesses that don't pay their bills.
The devices remove the human factor from the equation, so customers
can no longer collude with dishonest meter readers to cheat the power
company."

include a number of utilities in Brazil
and in Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.

and Asian markets are under way.
