}After a thorough discussion on SVA, the teacher will now conduct a collaborative
discussion about auxiliary verb rules.
Discussion Content :
Auxiliary (or Helping) verbs are used together with a main verb to show the verb’s
tense or to form a negative or question. The most common auxiliary verbs are ,
be(is/are) , has/have, and does/do.
SINGULAR PLURAL
is
Example : The student is studying the
lessons.
are
Example: The children are playing on
the ground.
Has
Example: She has a boyfriend.
have
Example: They have a blue car.
Does
Example : He does his assignments.
Does he listen to his teacher ?
Do
Example : We do not care about him.
Do you know his father?
Note: In English there is always an exception to the rules. “ I and You” are both
singular subjects, but because verb form is not based simply on the number , but
also on the person. We would say , “I do. and You do.” not “I does and You does.”
Using the same grouping ( if only they are grouped in the motivation part)
Activity 1.
The teacher will divide the class into 3. First group will take the auxiliary verbs IS
and ARE. Second group will focus on HAS and HAVE. And the last group will dig in
to the usage of the auxiliary verbs DOES and DO.
The teacher will also divide the board into 3 label it with GROUP 1,2 and 3.
The students each group will be asked to write example sentences as many as they
can focusing on their assigned auxiliary verbs.
The teacher will check each group’s task together with the students. Corresponding
points will be given for each group.
Activity 2.
The teacher will hand over one red flag for each group. Then, the teacher will flash
an incomplete sentence on the big screen. Each group should compete on completing the
sentence using auxiliary verbs discussed. The group who can raise their flag first will be
given the chance to complete the task.
