      charges of maintaining a secret slush fund in his "Checkers" speech, broadcast on
      national television
     Britain develops atomic bomb.
     Bangladesh Martyrs Day (martyrs of Bengali Language Movement)
     15th modern Olympic games opens in Helsinki, Finland
      1st human birth televised to public (KOA-TV Denver, Colo)

   BUSINESS & ECONOMY:
     Green-tinted chlorophyll becomes a popular aulitive to a variety of food and
       medicinal products as a breath aid (a benefit soon to be disputed by many doctors
       and scientists)
