INTERVIEW NO. 3 WITH RON PRICE
Preamble:
This is the third interview in the year 1996 with the Australian-Canadian poet Ron Price. This interview continues to explore some of the same questions, examine similar issues and talk about poetry, reading and writing as the first two interviews did earlier in 1996. He has also added material in the years after 1996 and up to 2012.
Questioner(Q): We have talked before about your first poem, or poems. Could you tell us more about how you got started in the poetry business?
Price(P): The first poem I wrote and kept in my files was two to three months after I started taking lithium carbonate, a mood stabilizer, for my bipolar 1 disorder. I wrote some forty poems in the six years: 1981 to 1987 and another one hundred and thirty from 1988 to 1991. I have come to see this period of some 11 years as my ‘first poems’. There was an emotional stability in my life that I had not had before as a young adult or middle-aged man, indeed, since I was in my mid-teens, since about 1959. I have talked about lithium before and I don’t want to belabor the point here, but I think it has been crucial to my balance and well-being. In the ‘80s I had several some major battle-zones in my life: in my employment, and in my fight for compliance on the medication. I worked in Zeehan, Tasmania; Katherine, Northern Territory; Port Headland and Perth in Western Australia--all in the same decade. In addition, my wife was sick much of the time in that decade---and on and on goes the litany of troubles. I think this zone of troubles kept my production limited, although I did write many essays.

Love
Love is an eternal topic, but what is love? As far as I am concerned, love is the most mystical emotion in our heart which makes us feel happy, satisfied or sad. Love is also the sincere emotion springing from heart as the boiled water spilling out of the kettle. Without love, our life will be gloomy and insignificant; without love, the world is wilderness. Love is as necessary in our life just as the thread in the quilt. Of course, there are a lot of kinds of love, such as parental love, fraternal love, romantic love, and so on. Parental love is the most unselfish and greatest love in the world. We never know the love of parents until we become parents ourselves. I still remember one story about a squab and a hunting dog. While the hunting dog was attacking the squab, the mother bird flew down from the tree without hesitation to protect her baby and the parental love made the dog gave in eventually. Animals can do this, not to speak of us human beings. Our parents gave us life and brought us up; they taught us to be good men and took care of us without any complaint. This is parental love which will protect and support us forever. A true friend is the one who overlooks our failures and tolerates our successes. When we meet difficulties, our friends will never look on with folded arms. This is friendship which is a golden blossom between true friends. It is said that the love story itself is not important; the importance is that one is capable of love. For instance, Jack promised Rose that he would never give her up. Another

example is that Wale tried hard to protect Eve with clumsy behaviors but genuine heart. This is romantic love which is like a rose, bringing us happiness and sorrow. Above all, if life is a quilt, love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen, but it really exists. Without it, life becomes meaningless.
First of all, love is put one's heart and soul into her shoes. If you love someone, you will do everything for her; you will think on her side. You will reject all the temptations that can make you live better, just because you don’t want to hurt her. Secondly, love is forgiveness. No matter what the other one do to you, you will forgive her at last. You won’t treat her eye for eye. Although what she has done hurts you so much, you won’t do the same thing to, because you love her. Thirdly, love is growing old together. The outside word is so colorful, but what you want is to grow old with her together and treasure every minute with her. What’s more, you will leave a place for her forever in your deep heart, even she has passed away.
Love is a kind of emotion that everyone has. It is around us. If we pay attention, we will find it. So, do not lose the faith to believe the existence of love. It is the feeling that every can feel by heart.

Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. This poem sums up the basic mindset
one should have in life. This poem also
does a great job of comparing a
butterfly’s life to our lives. This whole
poem is a comparison of the two. This
poem does also follow a rhyme scheme.
Life is so precious, and you can not take
any day for granted. You may not live to
see another day, that’s why you must
enjoy every moment.
4.
5. I loved this poem because it was so positive.
It gave off such positive energy and made me
want to almost live by these words. The
writer made the reader almost feel a certain
positivity after you read it. The writer created
an effect on us by using the repeating phrase
“Life is..”. This poem is words to live by. This
is a free verse. This whole poem is a
metaphor because it compared life to being
all different kinds of things without using the
words like or as.
6.
7. This poem is a free verse and also uses a lot of
personification. For example, the phrase says, “your
heart sings.” By saying your heart sings, it is giving
human characteristics to non living things. I liked this
poem for many reasons, most of all because the title is
titled ‘Happiness” which is exactly what everyone wants
to feel in life. The poem explains emotions of life that
everyone wants to feel. Everyone wants to be so ‘high’
on life that they are just in pure bliss. Happiness is the
key to being a better you..
8.
9. This poem is a free verse. The tone of this poem is
serious. You get a feeling of strength after reading
this poem. The mood is set by making us feel like
we can accomplish anything. Life sometimes wants
to knock us down, but we have to get back up. We
have to keep fighting. The writer compares every
negative notation she writes about with a positive
comeback and I love that. You have to be positive
to get through life.
11. I like this poem so much because it is a free
verse. This poem creates a certain mood and
the writer gives off a hopeful tone and
positivity. This poem is one of my favorites
because it is everything you should live by in
life. You have to believe and have faith. You
must value life and everyone along with it. Life
is not always easy, but will be worth it if you
keep fighting.
12. Shine
Life is something we all share, Just like
oxygen, in the air The way we live it, is
up to us, With a negative or with a plus
Life is something, we should cherish,
We never know, when we'll perish Live
each and every single day, Smell the
flowers, stop and play
Life is something, we've been blessed,
Choice is yours, choose your quest
Follow your passions, and you'll be
fine, With the right attitude, you will
shine
-Anonymous
13. This poem has a very nice rhyme scheme. The poem
is a good example of imagery because it paints us a
picture of how one should live their life. It gives off a
rhyme with every line. It makes it that much better for
the reader to read. It also reminds us that nothing in
life should be taken for granted. We should feel
blessed everyday. In life, you have to follow your
heart.
15. This poem stuck out to me in a good way because it
demonstrates two things you can’t get through life with
out; love and respect. We must respect each other and
learn to love each other. The writer does a good job
with explaining this basically by saying if you do these
two things, you will never have a dull moment. This
poem creates a serious mood because love and
respect should be taken seriously. The writer does a
good job of making the tone in this straight forward and
serious.
16.
17. The writer rhymes well in this poem. Also, this poem
shows a different point of view that I believe you
must follow in life. This point of view is the fact that
no matter how bad you think you have it, the sun will
always come up the next day. You have the
opportunity to make the next day a better one.
Through tears of joy and tears of sadness, you will
not always be at your lowest low and you will not
always be at your highest high.
18. In a world filled with changes
each and every day
I feel I'm being judged
for what I do and say
I remember back to Barbies
and play days at the park
When I didn't worry about
other people's remarks
Now looking in the mirror
I see to my surprise
A completely different person
staring in my eyes
The carefree little girl
I saw at 4 and 5
Is now becoming a teen..
Just trying to survive
-Misti L. Green
Changing Life
19. I love this poem because it is about a
teenage girl. She is young and is just trying
to survive in the teenage environment, that at
times isn’t always the easiest. The teenage
girl kind of shows that she is just trying to get
by and fit in with what she is “supposed to
be.” She further says about how she
remembers being little. She remembers this
because things are more simple. This poem
follows a certain rhyme scheme that makes it
that much easier for the reader to read. It
gives off a positive tone.
20.
21. This poem has a nice rhyme scheme. This poem is
very intellectual. The writer, Portia, does a really
good job of stating how life isn’t always easy. The
writer says, “there may be some thorns in the way,
but there will also be flowers.” This shows that life
isn’t always going to be bliss and happiness, but it
will be worth it. The tone in this poem is almost a
little of both positivity and negativity. It starts by
saying how things can knock you down, but shows
how to answer to negativity with positivity.
23. Love is red and pink
It tastes like an apple pie
It sounds like a soft breeze in the air
It smells like a dozen roses
It looks like a happy, loving family
It makes me feel alive like I never thought I could
-Aubrey Lukacsko
What is love
24. I believe in the warmth of a smile
The importance of laughter
The love from the friends
The support from my family
The rememberence of those who died in war
But the belief that if you love people,
To let them go is wrong
I believe that laughter is the best medicine
I believe there is nothing stronger than love
I believe in respecting your elders,
Loving, caring, smiling
And I believe everything happens for a reason
-Aubrey Lukacsko
Believe
25. I am outgoing and loving
I wonder why our society is so corrupt
I hear laughter
I see life in others
I want happiness for the rest of my life
I am outgoing and loving
I pretend I do not care when someone hurts my feelings
I feel love
I touch life
I worry about becoming distant from family in college
I cry when I see someone get bullied
I pretend I do not care when someone hurts my feelings
I understand life is precious and is a gift
I say everything happens for a reason
I dream I will be happy the rest of my life
I try to always stay positive
I hope I can make others happy as myself
I am outgoing and loving
-Aubrey Lukacsko
I am
26. Blondes have more fun
Just because I’m blonde
Doesn’t mean I’m not smart
Don’t call me stupid
Still take me seriously
Just because I’m blonde
It doesn’t mean you can make fun of me
It doesn’t give you the right to assume things
It doesn’t mean I’m stupid, I just have fun
Just because I’m blonde
Still won’t let people make fun of me
Can’t wait until people realize I’m smart
Just because I’m blonde, I will still be happy
27. Life
Precious Life
Life can end, too soon
Diseases, suicides, and murders
Family hurts over their loses
Trying to live every moment to the fullest
