2. Personal Statement
When I was in my last year of high school, I took a general psychology class for the first time and
from that point on, all I wanted to do was study psychology. I fell in love with the concept of
being able to help individuals with their concerns or diagnosis that affects their everyday life.
When I started knowing that I could be an individual, who would help these individuals
change their lives for the better, is very exciting and worth going through every hill I had to
climb. I believe that every individual has climbed hills in order to succeed, but I believe that
the problems I have faced made me a stronger individual.
When I graduated from High School, I immediately went to my community college, Joliet Junior
College, and studied psychology as much as I could, as well being introduced into a new
subject I fell in love with… criminal justice. Psychology and criminal justice made me push
myself, so that I can become a part of history in the future. Thinking of ways I could
incorporate my passion for psychology and criminal justice together, came with ease and I
knew right away what I wanted my career to be. From the beginning of my term, I decided I
wanted to major in psychology and have a minor in criminal justice. I also knew that I did not
just want to be a psychologist, but someone who could be a part of the criminal justice
world. After doing research on how I could incorporate both of these careers, Forensic
Psychology really caught my eye. As I started to discover more and more about forensic
psychology, I started learning the different roles one can take within this career. The roles of
a forensic psychologist are quite fascinating and there are many paths an individual can
take with this career. Being able to choose a path that suits an individual can really pin point
one’s wants and needs for their future.
3. Personal Statement Cont.
Further into my education, I started getting involved with the different courses of psychology and
discovered that the thought of working with children intrigued me. I realized helping children
grow and readapt to their diagnosis could help change their lives for the better, especially
when they might have a hard time changing it themselves. In 2010 during my last semester
at Joliet Junior College, I interviewed for a 100 hour internship with Easter Seals
Rehabilitation Center. I then was given privilege to become a part of their Autism Clinic.
Over the course of 5 months, I was given a chance to sit in on intakes, MMPI testing and
scoring, diagnostic clinics, occupational, feeding, and behavioral therapy. I also was a part
of building their Autism Library where families or facility members could check out books,
that would allow them to gain or share information about the different Autism Spectrum
Disorders. Throughout the whole internship, I worked with children and it made me realize
that I did want to work with children in my future profession. It is an honor to have the ability
to feel so passionate towards a career that will help me succeed.
From this point when I started my journey with Argosy University, I immediately wanted my
Bachelors in psychology and stay focused on criminal justice. Forensic Psychology really
fascinated me on how well it brings psychology and law together. For the past year and a
half, I have worked very hard to be able to achieve my academic goals to be a part of the
Argosy University Alumni. February of this year, I will finally receive my Bachelor’s Degree in
Psychology and plan on starting internships around the Chicago land area. I have also
decided to go back to my Joliet Junior College this summer to obtain a certificate in Criminal
Justice. I hope to receive a position that would start my career and where I can pursue
getting my master’s degree in fall of 2013; I would then like to take my degree and develop
into being a treatment provider, as well as pursuing to be an academic. I would like to share
my knowledge and help other students develop a sense of wonder for this incredible career.

7. Reflection
Throughout my year and a half at Argosy, I have gained so much
insight from my professors. Argosy prepared me to be a
professional graduate student that is ready to start a new
chapter! I cannot wait to start this new chapter because I am
able to start looking forward to building my career. It is really
exciting to know that one day I will be working in the forensic
field and be an academic to teach young adults.
Through this program, I was taught new and fascinating points
about psychology and I was able to apply what I already knew
from my previous school. I also had the occasional professor
who engaged our class in an activity almost every week, I
thought that was an awesome idea! I had a lot of fun at Argosy
University and it was an amazing experience. I now have the
tools and knowledge to become successful.

Being able to say that I will be a lifelong learner by continuing my
education, is great. As I mentioned in my personal statement, I
do plan on attending graduate school for Fall of 2013. This will
enable me to achieve my Masters degree in Forensic
Psychology. I also do plan on having previous and future
experiences that will allow me to gain more personal knowledge.
I also plan to find some internships and work with mentors.
Within the next 10 years, I would like to have my Masters Degree
as well as my Doctorate. I would love to be in a workplace
where I have been for a few years and I would also love to have
a academic job teaching general, abnormal, and forensic
psychology. I know that I will never stop learning about
psychology or any other aspects, because you learn something
new everyday. You can never learn to much.
