2. HHC 164TH TAOG
Hello Warhawk Families,
As the seasons prepare to change, HHC can expect
upcoming changes along with it. We are quickly
approaching the integration of the family readiness
programs of 597th and HHC. I am looking forward to
working with all Soldiers and Families and focusing on
ensuring that the transition is smooth and all feel
welcomed to participate in our combined Family
Readiness Group.
Some things to look for this month are the following:
 HHC FRG Cookout on 7 September 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm behind
Building 30501 (TAOG). Please come out and support so we can raise much
needed money.
 On 13 September 2011 beginning at 6:00 p.m., there will be a FRG Social event,
BUNKO NIGHT. We’re going to have lots of fun. The more people we have to
play the merrier, so please come out and join in on the fun!
 22-24 September, The Unit Ministry Team will be sponsoring a single’s retreat in
Florida. Please see the Chaplain to ensure you get placed on the list.
Other announcements worthy of noting are a special congratulations to SGT Pressley
who was promoted at the beginning of August 2011 and congratulations to SPC
Hibbard who graduated from the Warrior Leader Course.

3. 597TH ORDNANCE COMPANY
Families of the 597th,
Wow, who can believe summer is almost over, sure
wouldn’t know it by the weather. First off, I would like
to thank all of you who attended our back to school cook
out. It was great seeing you all there. September will be
another busy month for the “Fast and Furious” Company.
September will start the transition of the company and we
will be complete by the end of October. For you, the
transition should seem transparent. CW3 Steven Hess and I are working to ensure that
you do not see a change. This month will be our last FRG meeting as a company. I
will be sending more information out at a later date on that. October will be our first
FRG meeting with HHC. Starting in October, HHC and 597th FRGs will merge. CPT
Doug Blevins, HHC Commander, and I have discussed this merger in depth and we
feel confident that this is the best thing for both organizations. I encourage you all to
stay involved in the FRG as it moves to HHC. For the Spouses of our deployed
Soldiers, CW3 Steven Hess and SFC Vincent Bernal will be your points of contact for
anything that you may need. The transition will be complete on 21 October. Until
then, if there is anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to call.

“How to Handle Change”
Recently, many Soldiers from our unit, as well as
their families, attended a Re-integration Retreat. One of the
group discussion topics involved an inevitable experience
we have all encountered throughout the day, called
“change”. For instance, getting married, losing a loved one,
preparing for retirement, dealing with an empty nest, or an
upcoming deployment. In keeping with the Strong Bonds’
material taught during the Retreat, there are four phases of
change:
Denial - to deny change is when one refuses to accept it is happening
Resistance - at other times, we attempt to resist change when it is unavoidable
Exploration - we are to explore change to determine how to make it work for us
Commitment - in order to commit to change, we must allow it to flourish
Indeed, change is built into life, but it is not new to humankind. Even the Bible
reveals how change offers great benefits when we keep God by our side. In Genesis you
will find a person by the name of Joseph that over came change one after another before
arriving at his final destination.
Joseph grew up in a family among brothers that disliked him, mainly be-
cause he was a dreamer, and also a coat of many colors was given to him by their father.
Hence, they decided to cast him into a cistern, and later sold him to a caravan of Ishmael-
ites (Gen.37). Just as Joseph began to adjust to his previous changes, he was falsely ac-
cused of sexual assault and placed in prison. As my father used to say, “If it’s not one
thing, it’s another.” In the midst of all of this, the author reveals in Genesis 40:20-21,
“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him.” He continued to
trust God, knowing the Lord was with him through his life changes, and was blessed, as a
result of his loyalty to God. Joseph exclaims, “God has made me fruitful in the land of
my suffering,” (Gen. 41:52). Certainly, there is an abundance of discomfort and insecu-
rity that come along with change, but change is not intended to make you bitter, but better.
Because Joseph refused to deny and resist changes he confronted with in life, it allowed
him to declare before his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for
good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives,” (Gen. 50:19).
In closing, ensure you accept change and focus on the future, not the past. Change
enables us to see another door opening, when one door closes. Be encouraged, and don’t
lose heart when you are faced with change, because God is about to do something great in
your life. Remember, even though you encounter changes in life, God is always with
you.
