would like to extend an invitation to your team to audition for our second annual dance
competition, ATL Tamasha. After last year’s roaring success as our first year of
competitions, we have decided to extend this year’s competition to include all south
eastern states in the United States. The competition will be held on November, 5th
2011 at the Robert Ferst Center in Atlanta, Georgia. ATL Tamasha will feature four
categories of dance including Bhangra, Raas/Garba, Fusion, and Classical Fusion.
Twelve teams, four in each category, will have the opportunity to compete for the best in
their assigned category and win a prize of $1000. This packet includes: audition rules,
regulations, a team application, judging criteria and contact information.
Georgia's UISA is also proud to announce that we will be supporting The Miracle
Foundation this year. The Miracle Foundation is a charity organization that helps
orphans who are faced with poverty, illiteracy, and the severe effects of broken families.
The Miracle Foundation provides these orphans with food, water, clothing, shelter,
education, and medical care. Georgia’s UISA is deeply committed to helping people in
need and this year we are donating a portion of our proceeds earned from ALL of our
events, including ATL Tamasha, to this particular charity.

3. Competition Rules
1. All teams must have no fewer than 8 and no more than 16 participants. A
maximum of two managers is allowed per team.
2. All participants must be currently enrolled students at a college or university.
Any individual not currently enrolled in a college or university will not be allowed
to perform. A form of college/university ID will be needed for each team member
at the time of arrival at the competition.
3. There is a non refundable application fee of $25 per team. This can be paid in
the form of cash or check. All checks must be made payable to “United Indian
Student Alliance- GA”. If the application fee is not received, the application and
audition video will not be judged by the committee. If selected, there will be an
additional $15 registration fee for each participating team member.
4. The deadline for the team application, audition video, and registration fee is
October 7, 2011. All materials must be postmarked by October 7, 2011.
Audition Rules
1. All audition videos must be no longer than three minutes long (including music).
Videos that are longer than three minutes WILL NOT be considered. Music
cannot contain profanity.
2. Videos must showcase the routine that will be performed for the competition and
must be taken in a practice/non performance setting. Past performance videos
WILL NOT be reviewed or considered (i.e. footage taken at a competition or
show).
3. No costumes are allowed in the video. Please wear practice clothes. DO NOT
wear any clothes that represent your team or school name. We want to ensure
fair and unbiased judging.
4. Props can be used in the video. However props that are not directly needed for
the dance (i.e. backgrounds and stage decorations) CANNOT be used.
5. The audition videos will be judged by the UISA Executive Board members
currently not on an auditioning team.

4. Category Specific Rules
Bhangra Rules and Regulations
1. Teams can consist of males, females or a combination of both.
2. At least 80% of all dance moves must be bhangra style.
Raas Rules and Regulations
1. Thalis, matlis, and all other small, handheld items count as props and must be
included in the props section of the application.
2. Dances must be made up of at least 80% raas/garba.
3. Acts must incorporate both raas and garba.
• Definition of Raas: Dandiyas must be used.
• Definition of Garba: Dandiyas are NOT used. However props such as matlis
(pots), thalis (plates), etc. will be allowed.

Classical Fusion Rules and Regulations
1. Dances in this category must be at least 70% in a classical Indian dance style.
2. Classical Indian dance forms include Bharatnatyam, Khathak, Kuchupudi, etc.
Fusion Rules and Regulations
1. Fusion can be described as a mix of different styles in one performance. Teams
that qualify for the fusion category must:
a. Consist of two or more different dance styles (ballet, bollywood, bhangra,
raas, hip-hop, etc…). One dance style cannot comprise more than 50%
of the performance.
b. Dances cannot be predominately one style.
• For example: You can have hip-hop music, but if you do
bhangra to the hip-hop music each time, then you belong in
the Bhangra Category
• Raas/garba or bhangra individually cannot comprise over
50% of the routine.
