Representatives from Mexico, Spain, Chile, Cuba, Uruguay, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize met at the "Ponte al 100" Forum in Cancun, Mexico. Over 400 specialists agreed on the importance of promoting physical activity to fight obesity. The representatives agreed to jointly work on initiatives to prioritize physical activity and education to prevent overweight and obesity in Ibero-American countries.

REPRESENTATIVES OF IBERO-AMERICAN
COUNTRIES AGREED TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
• More than 400 specialists agreed on the importance of focusing efforts to fight obesity and
overweight by promoting and educating on physical activity.
• Representatives of Mexico, Spain, Chile, Cuba, Uruguay, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize
amongst others expressed their interest to study proposals in favor of physical activity.
Mexico City, August 29, 2014. The “Ponte al 100” Forum was closed today in Cancun
(Mexico) with the agreement in which Ibero-American countries expressed their
interest in studying initiatives that prioritize physical activity and education to prevent
overweight and obesity.
“Ponte al 100” is a program that combines recommendations on nutrition and physical activity
and which is promoted in Mexico by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte
(CONADE), the Federación Mexicana de Medicina del Deporte (FMMD) and, as allied founders,
Coca-Cola Foundation and the Movimiento es Salud Foundation.
After two days where 400 specialists as well as specialists and government representatives
shared experiences and studies on the importance of physical activity to accomplish
comprehensive well-being of people and to fight obesity, the representatives of the
governments of Mexico, Spain, Chile, Cuba, Uruguay, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize amongst
others agreed to work jointly to overcome this situation.
“Aware of the fact that physical inactivity plays a determining role not only in the overweight
pandemic and obesity but in all Non-Communicable Diseases impacting national economies in
education and health public systems”, countries participating in the “Ponte al 100” Forum
signed the above mentioned proposal.
The signing countries declared to be “concerned of the harmful impact of overweight and
obesity in global public health” and claimed to be “resolved to adopt measures that promote
the creation, identification and maintenance of adequate policies, programs and spaces that
ensure practicing physical activity under conditions of equality”.
In the declaration, the representatives of these Ibero-American countries claimed to be
“interested in creating standard indicators that measure the impact of physical inactivity,
overweight and obesity in national economies and their negative impact on Gross Domestic
Product”

2. “The Ponte al 100 International Forum, Energy Balance, is a first step of what societies are
looking for: to lower physical inactivity by promoting the habits of exercise and good nutrition,
something that is complemented with the invaluable contributions from experts in the subject
matter and the clear participation of representatives of various governments as well as that of
the private sector to tackle this evil; it is a great effort and now in Mexico, from Cancun, we
express the intention of adding efforts to this noble cause which, to a lesser or greater degree,
is everybody’s responsibility”, said Jesus Mena Campos, CONADE’s director general.
To Laura Tamayo, Vice-president of Public Affairs and Corporate Communication of Coca-Cola
de Mexico, the declaration that was signed today in Cancun “is a great step towards the
governments’ commitment to promote healthy life styles in people”. “The Coca-Cola system in
